Working alongside the management team, you will be responsible for forming and fostering relationships with key partners, leading on our Family Safeguarding Project providing clear role modelling within the service ensuring that safeguarding practice is always followed to ensure we are providing an effective service and meeting contractual requirements.

 

The successful candidate will hold a valid qualification in Social Work and be registered with the regulatory body and have experience of working with families who have multiple risk factors. They will have excellent knowledge of the key issues and the ability to interact with a range of professionals on a range of levels to ensure the best outcomes for this cohort.

Job Description

To provide a statutory Social Work Service in accordance with the provisions of relevant legislation and national and local guidelines.

To assume case management responsibilities specific to the Service, carrying out assessment of service users’ needs and risks, using accredited risk assessment tools and, following Service procedures, delivering direct interventions to individuals and small groups as part of a programme of interventions.  The role will also involve participating in structured consultation/supervision sessions as required and representing the Social Work Service in multi-disciplinary forums. This will all be in accordance with the Council or hosted stakeholders arrangements, through a Service Level Agreement or Partnership arrangement

Requirements

This post is considered Regulated Work with Vulnerable Children under the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (Scotland) Act 2007. You will be required to join the PVG Scheme or undergo a PVG Scheme update check prior to a formal offer of employment being made by Clackmannanshire Council and the cost of this check which will be deducted from your salary.

Role Purpose

This is an exciting opportunity to be part of a small and innovative team within Children’s Services. IVY is a specialist psychological and social work service for young people with complex social, emotional and behavioural difficulties and who pose a risk to others. It offers risk assessment, consultation and management and direct intervention and psychological assessment. The service also extends this support to families.

By providing specialist, therapeutic support, the IVY project aims to ensure the young people and the professionals supporting them have access to the best advice, practice assessment and interventions addressing mental health, psychological and forensic risk and needs.

We are happy to consider flexible working for this role such as remote working, secondments and flexible hours. 

Main Responsibilities:

• To provide consultation to professionals and service users regarding mental health, psychological and risk assessment, formulation and risk management.

• To provide specialist risk assessments of service users referred to the project based on the appropriate use, interpretation and integration of complex data including structured professional judgement tools, self-report measures, rating scales, direct and indirect structured observations and semi-structured interviews with service users, family members and others involved in the service user’s care.

• To formulate and implement plans for the intervention and/or management of a service user’s offending behaviour problems, based on an appropriate conceptual framework, and using methods based on evidence of effectiveness and efficacy across the full range of care settings.

• To implement a range of evidence-based interventions for individuals, carers, staff, professionals and families by drawing from different explanatory models and maintaining a number of professional hypotheses.

• To provide social work advice, guidance and consultation to other professionals contributing directly to service users’ risk management and care plans. 

• To contribute directly and indirectly to a multi-disciplinary based framework of understanding and care to the benefit of all service users within the project.

• To undertake risk assessment and risk management for individual service users and to provide advice to other professions on aspects of risk assessment and risk management.

• To communicate in a skilled and sensitive manner, information concerning the assessment, formulation and intervention plans of service users under their care and to monitor progress during the course of their care.

• To receive clinical professional supervision from a senior psychologist and, where appropriate, other senior professional colleagues.

• To contribute to research, service audit and evaluation.

• Work in partnership with colleagues within IVY and other professional teams

• Present on the IVY service at conferences and events 

• Assess and evaluate outcomes of projects and activities within IVY, reflecting on practice and processes to inform the development of new initiatives to improve the IVY service

Person Specification

Education and/or Professional Qualifications

Essential

• A social work degree or equivalent  

• Registered with the Scottish Social Services Council (SSSC) 

Experience

• Relevant knowledge and experience of the criminal justice social work and/or youth justice sector and the breadth and impact of issues affecting young people at risk of or involved in offending behaviour. 

• Knowledge and understanding of relevant Scottish Government legislation and policy areas and the complexities of effective implementation.

• Knowledge of child protection procedures

• Experience of working with high risk individuals and their families

• Experience of risk assessment and formulation

• Excellent skills in report writing and risk formulation

• A sound knowledge of social work legislation and be able to contribute this knowledge to professional discussions
