The post holder will take responsibility for ensuring that all patients with either a suspected or diagnosed cancer are proactively tracked through the appropriate patient pathway from point of entry to the Trust liaising with clinical and administrative teams ensuring each stage of their pathway is fully planned and booked to ensure Cancer Wait Times targets are achieved.

From 1 April 2020 the PMO moved out of the Finance Directorate and into a new Improvement Directorate. This change is supported by the appointment of a new Director of Improvement role who directly reports into the CEO.

As part of a PPM community of practice contribute to the development of project and programme management approaches and ways of working across the organisation.
To act as a champion for patients and their interests and involve the public and patients in project development and decision-making processes
Advise on innovative opportunities and support all departments in their strategies and programmes to maximise service benefits
Promote research and development initiatives to secure cost and service improvements from alternative methods of operation or re-engineering existing processes
Contribute to the development of strategic processes and policies that support the embedding of project management philosophy within the wider organisation and across health and social care
Work within both organisation and national guidance, interpreting national guidance relevant to the programme and act as a subject matter specialist within the specific programme areas

Demonstrates a flexible approach to the development and delivery of new programmes where necessary within the scope of the Trusts strategic objectives
Interrogate and analyse, sometimes highly complex and contentious, information to support the delivery of clear project reporting and project outcomes
Write and submit regular high-level programme reports for the Programmed Director and programme boards showing progress against milestones, status resource requirements, issues, risks and dependencies, making recommendations where a range of options may exist
Develop key performance indicators and milestones for specific programmes and projects, managing conflicts and ensuing that interdependencies are managed effectively
