Job overview

As part of the Training Administration Team, the post holder will assist with the coordination of training and education across the Trust, providing administrative support to staff within the Training and Education team, ensuring the department runs smoothly at all times.

Job responsibilities

Job description

Job responsibilities

Eating Disorders are extraordinarily complex illnesses that present with abnormalities in physical and psychological functioning. The physical complications have the potential to cause permanent damage and in some cases are life threatening. The causes are complex and multi-factorial, including genetic, neurodevelopmental and environmental influences. They require a comprehensive treatment programme including medical, psychiatric, psychological, social and educational interventions.

Ellern Mede offers two treatment programmes, a Recovery Unit and a High Dependency Unit (HDU). We aim to stabilise patients physical and psychological states as rapidly as possible for transfer to step down service. The HDU admits patients whose illness requires more intense levels of clinical involvement and nursing. The service is able to admit patients requiring treatment under mental health legislation. The aims of the services are to improve the patients health and dependency needs sufficiently for transfer to a regular eating disorder unit or to the community.

An outpatient service is currently being developed.

Ellern Mede is able to admit patients requiring treatment under the Mental Health Act.

The post-holder will be expected to work as part of a Tier 4 child and adolescent in-patient service, providing treatment for children and young people with eating disorders.

The role involves assessment and treatment of children, young people and their families with complex eating disorder and other complex mental health problems.

The role will involve providing support and guidance, helping other staff members develop skills in working with families.

1. MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBLITIES

To provide both specialist and generic assessments of referred patients, using interview and other assessment methods as appropriate.

To formulate and devise treatment plans for referred patients and to provide interventions using a range of generic and discipline specific models appropriate to the service. This includes both short- and long-term treatment approaches.

To liaise with all relevant staff members regarding the care and treatment of clients.

To establish and maintain effective communication and relationships with nursing and other multi-disciplinary colleagues within the service and also with professionals in referring agencies

To contribute systemic perspectives to the multi-disciplinary teams understandings and care of clients.

The Department

You will join a fantastic multidisciplinary team, led by Dr Hafiz and colleagues. The department has expanded steadily and has become extremely effective in providing acute and rehabilitative care to frail, older medical admissions.

The post holder will be a key member of the team and will be integral to our newly designed frailty team, as we expand and develop the service. You will lead a team of multi-disciplinary staff in providing comprehensive geriatric care for frail patients over the age of 75, who present to the hospital. As part of a multidisciplinary team, you will be committed to delivering nationally and locally agreed clinical and quality targets.

You will work within an inpatient bed base that covers 3 wards and has an additional rehabilitation ward. You will be supported by 3 frailty nurse specialists, 2 Parkinson’s nurse specialists, 2 Registrars, 1 associate specialist, 2 GPVTS and 9 Trainees.

There is a strong commitment to high quality education and you will be encouraged to support in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching. As a clinical and educational supervisor you will shape future generations of physicians. The team are committed to, in addition to Grand Round presenting, dedicated Wednesday Geriatrics teaching sessions.

The post holder will also be expected to participate in the emergency out of hours General Medicine on call Rota.

Applications are invited for the post of Consultant Radiologist with Subspecialist Interest to complement the current Radiology Team, ideally chest / cardiac imaging or general cross sectional imaging. You will join the current team of friendly and enthusiastic Radiologists to provide General Radiology Services in this busy modern Hospital which provides a wide range of clinical services to a population of 330,000.

The successful candidate must have full GMC registration with CCT and possess FRCR (or equivalent).

The Radiology Department is well equipped and provides a wide range of services. There is well established skill mix with Radiographers undertaking Plain Film Reporting, CT reporting, and Ultrasound reporting. There is full PACS/RIS desktop integration with PACS stations available throughout the Hospital. There is a 1.5 Tesla MRI Scanner, 2 Multi-Slice Spiral CT scanners including a 64 and 128 slice scanner, a dedicated Interventional Suite, 10 Ultrasound machines and 2 Gamma cameras, one of which is a SPECT/CT camera. The department is working towards supporting 7 day working throughout the trust.

Access to images out of hours is available from Consultant homes via PACS workstations. CT scans undertaken after 8pm weekdays and 6pm weekends are outsourced.

The Hospital has Associated Teaching Hospital status and is part of the Sheffield Teaching Hospitals Radiology Training Scheme and is on the Specialty Registrar rotation. There are strong links with the Sheffield University Medical School, teaching and research at all levels will be encouraged. You will be granted Honorary Lecturer status and will be able to apply for an Honorary Senior Clinical Lecturer position.

Any candidates unable to work full time will be eligible for the post; if such a person is appointed, modification of the job content will be discussed on a personal basis with the Chief Executive, Clinical Director and Medical Director.

To provide a specialist high standard service including the supervision of rotational and support staff within the Inpatient team and any other area as service development requires.

To contribute to the delivery of services to meet trust objectives

To manage a caseload of patients and maintain associated records

To clinically supervise and appraise students, junior and support staff

To provide interventions in locations across the health community covered by The Rotherham NHS Foundation Trust as required.

Key Result Areas and Responsibilities:

To clinically supervise, teach, mentor and co-ordinate the work of others in line with departmental guidelines delegating work as required, ensuring all clinical practice meets the required professional standards of practice.

To contribute to monitoring the quality of work in own service area, through active involvement in clinical supervision and reporting any performance/quality issues and related risks.

To be responsible for equipment used in carrying out duties, adhering to departmental policy and ensuring the safe use of equipment by others through teaching, training, and supervision of practice.

Key Internal and External relationships
Information Management

To liaise with members of the multi-disciplinary team to ensure the delivery of a co-ordinated service. This will include discussion of patient/client care and progress with GPs, Consultants, Nurses, and other relevant health & social care and third sector staff.

To advise more senior staff of operational changes, trends, or difficulties in the area of work.

To deputise for the more Senior Registered staff as requested

To provide advice and demonstrate activities or workplace routines to new or less experienced staff within designated area

Patient/Client Care

To organise and plan own caseload to meet service and patient/client priorities readjusting plans as situations change/arise, in consultation with a more Senior colleague where appropriate

To be clinically responsible for a designated caseload of patients/clients and to organise this effectively and efficiently with regard to clinical priorities and use of time.

To undertake a comprehensive assessment of patients/clients using a range of recognised and highly specialised clinical assessment techniques.

Research and Development

To be involved with audit and research activities, within the team

To be involved in the evaluation of own work, and that of the team, through benchmarking against evidence-based standards.

To work with the team leader / clinical specialist to implement change and service development as indicated by the results of audit/research/benchmarking activities

Remain up-to-date with local, regional and national policies and developments
