Aside from the important work of helping people recover from injuries, those working in the strength and conditioning industry help their clients improve their physical appearance and overall health. A strength and conditioning coach, physiotherapist or similar is responsible for designing and overseeing sport-specific and non-sport-specific conditioning programs; guiding clients through a regimen of exercises to optimise their physical performance and decrease injury potential, and teaching proper weight lifting, speed, agility and conditioning techniques, among other tasks.
Strength and Conditioning Jobs Education Requirements
Most applicants will need a BSc (honours) degree in strength and conditioning science or the equivalent field of study. This can also be combined with other subjects such as biology or kinesiology for more specialised career paths. The majority of students will be required to complete a four-year programme, although there can be some accelerated courses suitable for others who have previous qualifications. Specialised certifications in health and fitness such as those offered by the City and Guilds organisation are also viewed favourably by prospective employers.

The Office for National Statistics states that the average salary for full-time strength and conditioning jobs is just over £27,000 per year. However, self-employed individuals could stand to make a significantly higher amount. Health-related salaries also tend to be paired with the specific set of skills the applicant has to offer, so those with additional skills or a PhD, especially in physiotherapy, can rise into a higher pay bracket.
