Higher Education Statistics Agency (HESA) is looking for an experienced Lead Statistical Analyst to join our team based in Cheltenham. You will join us on a full time, permanent basis and in return, you will receive a highly competitive salary of Circa £35,000 depending on experience.

Responsibilities of our Lead Statistical Analyst:
- Undertaking complex analysis of HESA data for Statutory/Official Statistics products.
- Extracting, manipulating and quality-assuring appropriate and often complex data from HESA databases using advanced database query languages or data manipulation tools.
- Undertaking statistical analysis resulting in written and/or verbal reporting.
- Taking a lead role in the production of Official Statistics outputs, and contributing ideas for development of statistical measures.
- Contributing expertise and statistical advice on the automation of Official Statistics production processes through open-source software.
What we’re looking for in our Lead Statistical Analyst:
- Educated to Bachelor’s degree level in a subject containing a high proportion of statistical content, or have relevant work experience and knowledge.
- Strong quantitative data analysis skills.
- Knowledge of descriptive statistics techniques.
- Experience of analysing data for both oral or written presentations.
- Sound report writing skills.
- Experience of undertaking insightful research and analysis within a subject domain, ideally within the education field.
- Knowledge and interest in the UK HE sector is desirable, as is knowledge of Open Data principles and processes.
- Knowledge of statistical modelling, time-series analysis, inferential and/or multivariate statistics techniques.

An exciting opportunity has arisen for statisticians / senior statistician (band 6/7) to join the Royal Marsden Clinical Trials Unit (RM CTU) which supports the Royal Marsden’s large, varied and innovative portfolio of studies ranging from early to late phase trials, and from simple to complex interventions.
The Royal Marsden is a world leader in cancer research, treatment and education. Together with our academic partner, The Institute of Cancer Research (ICR), we are the largest comprehensive cancer centre in Europe and the only National Institute of Health Research (NIHR) Biomedical Research Centre (BRC) specialising in cancer in the UK.
The RM CTU is currently employing a team of 9 statisticians and wishes to expand its statistical team further following our full accreditation from the UK Clinical Research Collaboration (UKCRC) Registered Clinical Trials Units Network. RM CTU supports the Research Themes of the only cancer specific Biomedical Research Centre (BRC).
We are looking for enthusiastic and self-motivated team members to contribute to the statistical and methodological considerations in study design and analysis of cancer clinical trials and studies. The post will be based in Cancer Imaging, a major strength at the Trust, where leading edge research has translated to improved patient diagnostics and disease management. Imaging data provides a fertile ground for artificial intelligence (AI) research and application, which can generate new knowledge, improve efficiency, increase diagnostic performance and a platform for integrated diagnostics.
• The statistician/ senior statistician (band 6/7) will provide support and advice relating to statistical and analytical aspects for all Royal Marsden clinical trials working actively as a trial team member along with clinicians, trial managers and database programmers.
• A post-graduate qualification in medical statistics is required.
• Experience in STATA, and/or SAS/ SPSS is essential and experience in clinical trial data management systems would be desirable.
• For the senior role extensive experience in clinical trials is essential and familiarity with the regulatory environment surrounding clinical trials is desirable.
You should also have:
• A flexible but organized approach to work with the ability to work under pressure and to meet tight deadlines.
• The ability to work independently, as well as part of a small multi-disciplinary trial team and with colleagues across more than clinical unit.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• For the senior/lead roles experience in line management is desirable.

About the work
Main outputs: You will work with our team of experts to create a new generation of sector-leading intelligent tools. These tools will empower investigators; boosting their ability to conduct reliable, comprehensive and fast forensics investigations of digital media artefacts — predominantly in the form of image or video data, but also audio or text data.
Your success, at the end of your first year, will be gauged by: (i) how well you would have produced at least one new AI model, to be integrated into tools for use by investigators; (ii) how effective the model(s) would be in terms of enabling investigators to make better informed decisions or recommendations which are based on deeper insights into the evidence and on more reliable information.
Key responsibilities: You will work within a team, to: research, conceive and build new AI models; evaluate the accuracy of the models; and create tools which support the deployment of the models within commercial-grade software.
