This role is part of a team which provides an efficient and effective Microbiology service to two general hospitals (Southend University/Basildon and Thurrock University Hospital Trusts) and local GP community. We are willing to consider both full-time and part-time applicants for this role. We're the first lab in the UK to be able to offer some Specialist BMS staff the opportunity to read bacterial cultures from home, utilising BD Kiestra Synapsys technology. As an important member of our team, you will be fundamental in making a positive difference to our healthcare service. Responsibilities: <ul><li>To provide clinical analytical services for patients and service users</li><li>To manage day-to-day staffing in area of responsibility to ensure safe service delivery and maintenance of TATs</li><li>To be involved in, and in some cases responsible for, service developments</li><li>To supervise and ensure training and competency assessment of staff in area of responsibility</li><li>To carry out appraisal of staff</li><li>To participate and in some cases be responsible for recruitment of staff</li><li>To be responsible for QC and QA in area of responsibility, ensuring non-conformances are investigated, documented and changes to practice identified where necessary</li><li>To participate in and undertake audit</li><li>To be responsible for writing and maintaining SOPs in area of responsibility</li><li>To report, investigate and monitor errors and incidents as per policies</li><li>To have oversight of reports released from area of responsibility</li><li>To authorise default fail queues for area of responsibility (i.e. reports not sent to consultant authorisation)</li><li>To monitor KPIs for area of responsibility, ensuring TATs are maintained</li><li>To be responsible for risk and COSHH assessments in area of responsibility</li><li>To attend, and chair where required, departmental meetings</li><li>To deputise for Principal BMS as required</li></ul> Qualifications: <ul><li>HCPC registered and Specialist portfolio or equivalent in Microbiology.</li><li>Management qualification to ILM level 3 or relevant experience.</li><li>MSc / FIBMS (by examination) / IBMS Higher Specialist Diploma and is currently in possession of Fellowship Class of the IBMS or equivalent experience.</li><li>Able to work across 3 different sites in a 24-7 work environment if required.</li><li>Able to work with a high degree of accuracy, numeracy, interpretive skills and good problem-solving skills.</li><li>Able to demonstrate a good knowledge and experience of industry standard laboratory information management systems and computer applications including Word, Excel, Power Point, Access and Statistical Packages.</li><li>Working knowledge of Microbiological manual and automated techniques and practices.</li><li>Working knowledge of Molecular biology techniques and platforms.</li></ul> About Us: SYNLAB UK & Ireland work closely with clinicians, hospitals, occupational health providers and clinical researchers to provide a complete pathology offering.
