What's the job?

Our Accident & Emergency Department is looking to welcome an experienced Senior Staff Nurse (Band 6) at Musgrove Park Hospital. There are various hours available, and we will be offering between £31,365 to £37,890 per annum, pro rata dependent on your experience.

We need someone who can be flexible with regard to shift patterns, as you will need to work a 24-hour internal rotation in every area of our Department.

As a core member of our team, you will be dedicated to delivering the highest standard of care possible, alongside leading your team to ensure we deliver the KPIs of 4-hour visit and 15-minute ambulance handover.

Who are we?

The ED department was expanded and refurbished in 2013 to provide a high-quality four-bed resuscitation room, which includes a dedicated paediatric resuscitation area and gantry X-ray and a 19 bedded 'majors' area. There is 24-hour access to CT, stroke thrombolysis, primary PCI and interventional radiology services. The hospital has trauma unit status and is part of the Severn Trauma Network, with the local major trauma centre being North Bristol.

Are you an experienced Nurse with an Acute background seeking a better work/ life balance? Does the idea of working 8am-6pm and only 1 in 12 weekends interest you?

The Endoscopy Department at Musgrove Park Hospital is a fast paced and varied environment, where you would be able to learn and develop your nursing or Endoscopy skills.

We have opportunities for Registered Nurses to join our highly skilled and motivated team, working across our 3 room unit at Musgrove and our single procedure room based at our Bridgwater Hospital, we also carry out ERCP’s within our x-ray department, and general anaesthetic lists in our Day Surgery Centre. You may be required to work in Bridgwater once trained and working autonomously (which usually takes around 6 months from your start date)

The ideal candidate will have Critical Care, ED/ AMU experience. You don’t need to have worked in Endoscopy, but you will have a good understanding and be able to give a comprehensive explanation of how the department works.

You’ll spend your day assisting Gastroenterologists, Surgeons and our Nurse Endoscopists with a range of specialised and technical procedures such as colonoscopy and gastroscopy. You’ll be able to follow the patient’s journey through the department, from gaining their consent and preparing them for their procedure, helping them feel at ease, to assisting in their recovery and after care.

This is an ideal opportunity for an RGN looking for a better work/ life balance, as the core hours are between 8 – 6.30pm weekdays, with the opportunity to work weekends one fully trained.

The Team

The team in Endoscopy are extremely friendly and supportive of you ongoing career development, there are many long-standing members in this team to provide knowledge and support, but some new faces also due to departmental expansion.

About us

South Petherton Community Hospital opened in June 2011 - a state of the art building found in the heart of the beautiful South Somerset countryside. The ward is has a mix of single and double rooms, all with en-suite facilities and balconies, as well as communal areas for patients.

Staff are provided with excellent changing facilities and a staff room with access to outside seating located on the balcony.

About you

Successful applicants will be responsible for all aspects of patient care, from admission through to discharge, using a computerised record keeping system. You will have the opportunity to attend family meetings, undertake ward rounds and be involved in multi-disciplinary team meetings. These all contribute to the decision making process, goal setting and care planning that facilitates a safe discharge home from Hospital. You will provide general nursing care to all of your patients, ensuring they are treated with dignity and respect. You will be able to promote a safe environment within the unit and act as a shift coordinator as required.

You must be a registered nurse who is able to communicate at all levels, have high clinical standards and have the ability to work as part of a team. Previous stroke experience is desirable however not essential as training will be provided wherever needed.

You would be required to work flexibly on an internal shift rotation, working both days and nights over a seven day period, including bank holidays. In return you will receive enhanced payments for working unsocial hours, a generous holiday entitlement and pension scheme.

Preceptorship nurses are also encouraged to apply, and a full preceptorship programme is offered by the Trust.
