Are you an innovative person, willing to apply your software development and engineering skills in a medical environment? We are recruiting a Software Engineer in radiation oncology physics.
You will join the radiation oncology (RO) physics team, part of the department of medical physics at University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust (UHS). The team has a successful record of software development both in-house or through collaborations with the University of Southampton.
The RO physics team, in liaison with equipment providers and the trust IT and data management groups, supports scientific computing, workflow optimisation, data management and development of Software as a Medical Device (SaMD) to improve efficiency and accuracy of RO planning and delivery. We also use and contribute to open-source projects and collaborate with commercial partners for developing and testing software for the Radiotherapy market.
The software development will target web applications as a whole (server and client side) and command line tools or libraries related to radiation oncology including (but not limited to) scientific modelling, analysis, imaging and 3D visualization.
You will also:
Support, maintain and further develop the quality management system comprising a software validation, testing and monitoring framework
Analyse and investigate a range of complex computing issues and provide solutions,
Work within the quality system in compliance with the ISO9001/2015 and other relevant national and international standards
Support the provision of the IT and networking services in the radiation oncology physics group

To be successful, you will need to demonstrate:
Recent significant experience in web-based software development, for both client side (HTML/CSS/JS) and server side, essentially based on JavaScript, Node.js and desirably Sails.js
Experience with 3D graphics OpenGL/WebGL and the JavaScript graphic library THREE.JS would be an advantage.
Desirably, experience with other frameworks for web applications, based on languages like Python or Java
Experience with relational SQL databases and NoSQL document databases like MongoDB.
Ability to write C/C++ command line tools
Experience with continuous integration (e.g. Jenkins) and desirably with provisioning tools (e.g. Ansible, Puppet etc.)
Experience of Linux operating systems
VM-ware knowledge/experience would be a plus too
Evidence of keeping up to date with developments in the area of software engineering and development
The successful candidates will be encouraged to develop their skills, as well as attend scientific conferences and partake in research and development projects and continuing professional development.
