Role Responsibilities

KUSCO are currently looking for a Security officer to join their team covering all of Kingston University's sites. You will be required to operate flexible hours, as 24 hour 365 day a year cover is provided by this service to multiple sites
Key Responsibilities:
  • To ensure the safety and security of staff, students and visitors at any Kingston University site.
  • Maintain accurate record to ensure information is available for the Duty Security Supervisor and Hall Manager
  • Take appropriate action to handle and contain incidents sensitively (e.g. aggression, theft). Ensure as much information as possible is available (e.g. carry out ID checks)
  • Provide first aid as needed. This may include making calls to Thamesdoc or to the emergency services.
  • Deal sensitively with distressed students, providing general advice on University services available.
  • Attend and take control of, emergency incidents such as Fire Alarms, following procedures, calling Emergency services and re-setting alarms as necessary.
  • Deal with emergency maintenance issues that may occur during a shift, varying from personally carrying out emergency lock changes to student bedrooms in cases of loss/theft of keys to contacting Responsive Maintenance call-out
  • Ensure the University parking regulations are upheld, and wherever possible preventing/reporting dangerous driving.
  • In any emergency situation to immediately contact Shift Supervisor and/or police if applicable.
  • Respond to all alarm activations including fire, access control, intruder and panic alarms.
  • Develop and maintain good working relationships with both University and external authorities (including emergency services) to ensure their continuing support, understanding and assistance.
  • Develop good relationships with staff, students, contractors and visitors; explain clearly the Security and Health & Safety regulations they need to understand, and provide them with information on security they require.
  • Where necessary to drive Security mobile vehicle and act as support to other officers.
  • To understand and follow Security Standing Orders and Assignment Instructions.
  • Any other duties as may be reasonably required, which may include ensuring good student behaviour in Computer rooms on main campus sites during the evening.

The Candidate:
Essential:
  • A current SIA Manned Guarding Licence/Door Supervision
  • A current SIA CCTV Licence
  • Current and valid manual UK driving licence
  • 5 year verifiable work record
  • Ability to work in a team and independently with a professional approach which generates credibility and confidence in others
  • The ability, tact and diplomacy to deal with people including our client, the client's staff and visitors in all circumstances including emergencies and other times of stress

Concierge Specific Responsibilities:

  • Early identification and mitigation of any threats to persons, premises or property, escalating where appropriate to do so

OBJECTIVE

To work as a reception Security Officer, providing a high level of customer service. Act as the first point of contact for all staff and visitors entering the building.  Liaise with the client and building tenants.  Managing with the Building Manager all Contractors working on site. Ensuring the protection of persons and property and thereby the provision of a safe and secure environment.

DUTIES

  • The Reception Desk is to be manned at all times unless on patrol.
  • Monitor and maintain the Reception area in a clean and tidy manner, ensure visitor waiting area is clear from litter. Marketing documentation, newspapers etc. are tidied regularly throughout the shift.
  • Monitor CCTV where applicable and investigate any suspicious activity ensuring both the Contract Manager and client are kept up to date, informing Police where necessary.  Report any system faults to the Building Manager or using calling approved contractors as per assignment Instructions.
  • Ensure that all log books, print outs and registers are maintained in accordance with the Company and the client requirements.
  • Maintain live and up to date records of building information as instructed by the Building Manager/Contract Security manager
  • Maintain the Handover diary with details of any work which may impact or trigger alarms and or other emergency systems, out of hour’s contractors, deliveries, planned evacuations, maintenance works etc.
  • Carry out with the Building Manager any alarm tests, checks on a weekly basis according to the clients and the Company requirements when required. This includes the Emergency phones in all lifts.
  • Ensure that all appropriate key(s), equipment and documentation are properly accounted for. The key cabinets must be kept I good order and audited at end of each shift. All keys tagged with the key register clearly detailed next to the cabinets.
  • Deal with all telephone calls, messages and enquiries in the approved manner using the correct greeting and remaining polite and courteous at all times.
  • Control access into the building via the Main Reception using the approved procedures regarding access control.
  • Oversee cleaning operatives
  • Liaise with the Building Manager, emergency escalation lists, UniTrust Management for any issues that may occur throughout the shift.
  • Report any defects or malfunctioning equipment in the building at the time of discovery or as soon as practically possible using dedicated Client helpdesk. The Security Officer must also notify the Building Manager at the earliest opportunity where necessary.
  • Log all couriers that enter the premises for deliveries and direct them to the appropriate tenant.
  • Carry out quality patrols as per assignment instructions.
  • Contractor supervision and escort where instructed.
  • Any other duties that may be required to be fulfilled according to the Assignment Instructions or client request.
