We are currently seeking to recruit Graduate Quantity Surveyors to work on one of our prestigious London construction schemes. This could include our highly regarded residential and education schemes in Ealing (worth more than £300m) - or one of our other well-recognised London based schemes. As a Graduate Quantity Surveyor, you will work on site within a smaller phase on one of these schemes, and we will give you the training and development to become a leader of tomorrow. In addition to London based working, there is also the option (should the successful candidate prefer) to work from our Main Head Office in Forest Row, East Sussex.

The main purpose of the job is to train as part of the Quantity Surveying team. You will be working on a range of projects, and supporting the team in the successful financial closure of these projects. You will learn practical quantity surveying skills through working closely with a mentor and being part of a successful delivery team.

A quantity surveyor works out  exactly how much our projects cost to construct and oversees finances on site from the very first estimate to the final bill. They ensure the build is value for money for a client and meets all relevant legal and quality standards.

If you are curious by nature, like to ask questions and don’t take things at face value, this would be a good fit for you. This is not a desk job, so you won’t be sitting behind a computer crunching numbers. On the job training

You will receive training in the following:

  • Appropriate Health & Safety Training.

Our graduate scheme requires a minimum or a 2:2 in a quantity surveying related degree. Candidates that hold a degree in a different discipline will also be considered provided they can show a genuine interest in the construction industry and the commercial operations of construction sites. In this instance, you will need to be willing to complete further study to further develop your quantity surveying knowledge. You will also need a GCSE grade C (or level 4) minimum in English and Maths. In addition, you'll be joining a fun and highly professional company and as such, you'll have a can-do attitude, have great attention to detail, excellent Microsoft Office skills and be ready to learn new skills.

Purpose of the Senior QS / Account Manager:

Management of a regional commercial team (Accounts Managers) to ensure effective contract management ensuring consistency across all contracts. Driving productivity, maximizing outputs and commercial efficiencies whilst collaboratively working with the site operational/utility teams and asset departments. Driving a positive culture and proactive approach in developing the TriConnex offering to meet customer needs.

 Senior QS / Account Manager Responsibilities:

Assist and support the Director of Commercial in the development of the Operations Department and offering

  • Provide commercial support to the team whilst developing team members through mentoring and coaching

  • Implementing personal development plans (MBF) and undertaking 1-2-1's whilst setting key departmental objectives/KPI's

  • Responsible for commercial performance from technical handover to final account

  • Ensuring appropriate records are maintained on projects regarding contract performance, variations and asset contribution through contract performance reviews (CPR)

  • Respond effectively to the business and customer needs both internal and external by developing and maintaining excellent customer relationships and service

  • Selection and Management of Sub-contractors across multiple regions, including negotiation of tenders and review of performance against tenders. Authorising payments against works completed

  • Forecasting of projects from handover to completion reviewing monthly to track performance

  • Producing monthly team reports including tracking against departments KPIs to be used in the monthly board reports

  • Attending and contributing to senior staff meetings working closely with peers to continuously improve processes and challenge current working practices whilst supporting others

     Senior QS / Account Manager Requirements:

  • Commercial knowledge within a utilities, developer or construction background essential

  • Knowledge of quantity surveying methods and techniques

  • Aptitude for maths, excel and ERP systems

  • Knowledge of the utility market is preferable

  • Understanding of customer service and impact on wider business

  • Knowledge and awareness of process improvement tools i.e. process maturity, leadership and development techniques

  • Experience within Quantity Surveying or similar commercial environment

  • Experience within the utilities market or construction industry is essential

  • Experience of managing and developing personnel with a coaching and mentoring approach

  • Experience in Excel at an intermediate to advanced level

  • Experience of ERP systems

  • Desire and passion for ongoing personal development and development of others

  • Full UK drivers' licence

  •  Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to liaise at various levels

A growing construction business is looking for a Quantity Surveyor / Project Manager to join its team building a solid reputation within its specialist sectors of Healthcare, Education, Leisure and Law Enforcement. They are looking for someone who is going to be a pivotal part of the company and be there for the longevity as they look to double their turnover. You will receive a salary of £50,000 - £55,000 per annum + £5,000 per annum increase following probation plus 28-days holiday, a pension scheme, phone, laptop and free on-site parking.
Your working hours will be Monday-Friday, 08:00-17:00 although there is flexibility as you will be out on the road covering various sites in Cambridge, Hertfordshire, Essex and London.  This role is ideal for someone who has worked for a main contractor with small multiple projects doing the whole job of PM, costs, contract and quantity surveying.
As a Quantity Surveyor / Project Manager, your responsibilities will include:
  • Dealing with contracts up to £5 million and having up to 7 contracts running at any one time.
  • Managing job-specific gross profits.
  • Taking accountability for the profitability of the project, using appropriate commercial strategy to ensure delivery of required margins.

    • An understanding and experience using the JCT Contract.
    • NVQ Level 6 or 7 in Construction Management is beneficial but is not essential, as is an MCIOB, ACIOB or ICIOB membership.

This could include our highly regarded residential and education schemes in Ealing (worth more than £300m) - or one of our other well-recognised London based schemes. As a Graduate Quantity Surveyor, you will work on site within a smaller phase on one of these schemes, and we will give you the training and development to become a leader of tomorrow. In addition to London based working, there is also the option (should the successful candidate prefer) to work from our Main Head Office in Forest Row, East Sussex.

The main purpose of the job is to train as part of the Quantity Surveying team. You will be working on a range of projects, and supporting the team in the successful financial closure of these projects. You will learn practical quantity surveying skills through working closely with a mentor and being part of a successful delivery team.

A quantity surveyor works out  exactly how much our projects cost to construct and oversees finances on site from the very first estimate to the final bill. They ensure the build is value for money for a client and meets all relevant legal and quality standards.

Could a Graduate Quantity Surveyor role be right for you? 

If you are curious by nature, like to ask questions and don’t take things at face value, this would be a good fit for you. This is not a desk job, so you won’t be sitting behind a computer crunching numbers. It’s a hands on role, so you will be out and about working with lots of people in different scenarios. If you like  flexibility and are self-motivated and pretty driven, this could be for you.

As a graduate, you can expect the following training and development as part of our scheme.

On the job training

You will receive training in the following:

  • Financial cost control of contracts
  • Subcontractor comparisons
  • Subcontractor enquiries
  • General training in surveying
  • General training in different areas of construction, such as estimating, buying and site management
  • Appropriate Health & Safety Training.

Our graduate scheme requires a minimum or a 2:2 in a quantity surveying related degree. Candidates that hold a degree in a different discipline will also be considered provided they can show a genuine interest in the construction industry and the commercial operations of construction sites. In this instance, you will need to be willing to complete further study to further develop your quantity surveying knowledge. You will also need a GCSE grade C (or level 4) minimum in English and Maths. In addition, you'll be joining a fun and highly professional company and as such, you'll have a can-do attitude, have great attention to detail, excellent Microsoft Office skills and be ready to learn new skills.
