The opportunity

We're looking for a Quality Assurance (QA) Engineer based either in Bristol or remotely in the UK with fortnightly visits to our Bristol HQ (when life eventually returns to normal!). You'll be joining a QA team ensuring our web application is fully tested through manual and automated testing. 

You will have an opportunity to join 10% time which is a whole day once every 2 weeks to improve yourself and explore new tools and technologies. 

Your main responsibilities:

  • Investigate and design/build solutions for any potential quality weak spots on the platform/development workflow.
  • Contribute to the testing effort through automated testing using Cypress and TestCafe
  • Perform manual and exploratory testing to ensure that work items meet the acceptance criteria you help define.
  • Identify when features do not meet expected behaviour and explain your observation to the team, including developers, business analysts and other QA.
  • Actively participate in sprint ceremonies: daily stand-up, sprint planning, sprint review & retrospective and backlog refinement meetings.
  • Work with developers to help them understand quality standards 
  • Advocate for quality within the team or even better, across the company
  • Collaborate with others to create and update the Test Strategy and other QA practices
  • Working day to day as part of a mixed Agile team comprising of Developers,  Product Owner and various Stakeholders

To be successful:

  • Understanding of QA principles, tools and techniques including testing concepts, methodologies and processes. 
  • Good understanding of agile development practice
  • Demonstrate a positive can-do attitude while under pressure, with the ability to organise and prioritise responsibilities 
  • Interpersonal skills and be able to work in partnership with other people.
  • Experience, or awareness in some form of automation testing (we use Cypress and TestCafe)
  • Ability to identify complex problems and review related information to develop and evaluate options and implement solutions
  • Experience of web based testing and a technical understanding of web design and  development

About the Quality Assurance Technician Role:

About the Quality Control Technician role:

The primary role of the postholder is to be responsible for the management of all deliveries, collections and all traffic movements on the site, ensuring that all associated paperwork is accurately and diligently recorded. - Identifying the customer account and material and ensuring that the correct vehicle registration, customer, product, haulier, source/destination and order number is recorded

- Accurately testing and data entry of incoming materials and of processed aggregate

- Being aware and controlling all vehicle movements on-site, ensuring waiting time is minimised

- Producing delivery and collection tickets for all aggregate loads being delivered or collected from the site, spot-checking lorries and notifying if vehicles are overweight

- Ensuring the laboratory is clean and tidy, daily and weekly checks are conducted, supplies are maintained and equipment is calibrated

- Ensuring all admin relating to the site process is completed accurately and in a timely manner

- Being aware of all personal responsibilities for Health and Safety, use of PPE and reporting accidents, incidents and near misses

- Ensuring full compliance with all Company policies and procedures

- Ensuring the image of the site (non-production areas) are always clean and tidy

· Define QMS strategy and ensure its proper maintenance

The Candidate
· Will be degree qualified in an Engineering, Science or relevant discipline.
· Will have a minimum of 5 year’s experience of managing quality in a complex organisation, preferably in a similar company designing and manufacturing electronic products and services.
· Will have a demonstrable record of driving improvement in quality performance and have a full working knowledge of TQM methods and tools.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Assist in planning, designing, and building the the test automation infrastructure to enable continuous deployment
  • Working alongside the Team to automate manual test scripts.
  • Design and perform functional, regression, and performance tests
  • To assist the Team in learning about automation technology.
  • Produce accurate and reasoned estimates for assigned QA tasks.
  • Execute QA/Automation tasks assigned within agreed timescales and to a high quality standard.
  • Participate actively in the design and code reviews of automation tests.
  • Provide assistance to the Team in respect of technical aspects of QA.
  • Contribute to production of test plans as required.
  • Achieve agreed productivity targets in order to ensure QA/Automation tasks are delivered within budget and to schedule. Reporting as early as possible to QA Team Leader/Manager where deliverables cannot be met.
  • Ensure all personal work is reviewed to the relevant team and departmental standards
  • Timely and accurate reporting of assigned task status as required by Team
  • Escalate product issues and suggest product improvements.
  • Escalate all issues in a timely fashion.
  • Ensure adherence to internal software processes as required by Team Leader/Manager

QualificationsRequired:

  • You will have technical testing experience in an Agile environment.
  • You will have technical testing experience with C# .NET and Selenium.
  • You will have experience of manual and exploratory testing.
  • You will be a self-starter with the ability to quickly learn new skills and the commitment to take responsibility for a task and see it through to completion.
  • You will have good communication skills, allowing you to explain technical issues clearly to both colleagues and customers.
  • You will have a strong understanding of agile working practice and be able to demonstrate the benefits that this brings to a modern development team.
  • You will have a strong attention to detail.
  • You will be able to work effectively as part of a team

Essential:

  • 2+ Years C# ASP.NET test automation using Visual Studio and Selenium.
  • Strong automation skills across multiple differing automation tools.
  • Knowledge of applying best practices within an automated testing framework.
  • Experience of web technologies including JavaScript, HTML and CSS.
  • Knowledge of version control of automated tests.

Advantageous:

  • Experience of automated testing of APIs and Web Services
  • Experience of SQL Database Querying would be advantageous
  • Experience of working in an Agile development team
  • Genuine interest in latest trends in software development and new technologies (we are a Microsoft Gold Certified Partner)

The opportunity

We're looking for a Quality Assurance (QA) Engineer based either in Bristol or remotely in the UK with fortnightly visits to our Bristol HQ (when life eventually returns to normal!). You'll be joining a QA team ensuring our web application is fully tested through manual and automated testing. 

You will have an opportunity to join 10% time which is a whole day once every 2 weeks to improve yourself and explore new tools and technologies. 

Your main responsibilities:

  • Investigate and design/build solutions for any potential quality weak spots on the platform/development workflow.
  • Contribute to the testing effort through automated testing using Cypress and TestCafe
  • Perform manual and exploratory testing to ensure that work items meet the acceptance criteria you help define.
  • Identify when features do not meet expected behaviour and explain your observation to the team, including developers, business analysts and other QA.
  • Actively participate in sprint ceremonies: daily stand-up, sprint planning, sprint review & retrospective and backlog refinement meetings.
  • Work with developers to help them understand quality standards 
  • Advocate for quality within the team or even better, across the company
  • Collaborate with others to create and update the Test Strategy and other QA practices
  • Working day to day as part of a mixed Agile team comprising of Developers,  Product Owner and various Stakeholders

To be successful:

  • Understanding of QA principles, tools and techniques including testing concepts, methodologies and processes. 
  • Good understanding of agile development practice
  • Demonstrate a positive can-do attitude while under pressure, with the ability to organise and prioritise responsibilities 
  • Interpersonal skills and be able to work in partnership with other people.
  • Experience, or awareness in some form of automation testing (we use Cypress and TestCafe)
  • Ability to identify complex problems and review related information to develop and evaluate options and implement solutions
  • Experience of web based testing and a technical understanding of web design and  development
