Project Managers take responsibility for business projects from planning to completion, and are required to monitor all phases of their project(s) and report back to senior management. Project Management jobs are found in all industries, including healthcare, IT, construction, engineering, and any sector where projects are undertaken. Although project scope, aims and methods may vary considerably, the principles of project management remain the same: the project manager must ensure that projects are completed successfully within budget, on time and according to business requirements.
A Project Manager needs a high level of literacy and numeracy, as well as business acumen, strong organisational skills, and leadership skills.
Project Manager Jobs Education Requirements
Generally, Project Managers will either have a degree in business or project management, or significant professional project management experience. Experience can be gained through supporting project managers by working in Project Support or Project Administration job roles. A PRINCE2 (Projects in Controlled Environments 2) qualification is advantageous, and ideal candidates will also possess practical experience of applying the principles of project management. Many employers will fund PRINCE2 training or other work-based project management courses.
Potential employers may require a qualification or experience in their specific industry. IT Project Management jobs, in particular, require strong IT skills.
