Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with our European engineering testing teams running tests with remote access to our HIL systems
  • Run automated test suites and create new test scenarios
  • Develop and implement new test cases
  • Document software defects using tracking systems and reporting defects to our customer
  • Analysis of testing data and report overall test status results in a managed process
  • Work with specific tools and hardware, CANape, Controldesk, EXAM, Doors, Jira.
  • Communicate efficiently and successfully to our engineers working in foreign locations.

 

Requirements

The ideal candidate would be a graduate, ideally in either Systems, Software, Electrical engineering. In additional to this you will need to meet the following requirement:

  • 3 years plus of professional experience with detailed knowledge of HIL (Hardware-in-loop) testing  
  • Strong experience in automated testing including writing test cases and test analysis
  • Experience in using CANape and Python in a work setting
  • Broad experience in the automotive sector with a strong understanding of a vehicle systems and the methods of testing a vehicle
  • Independent and proactive way of working
  • While the role would be able to be completed remotely allowing you to work from home currently, in future you would be required to work from our Warwick office or possibly a regional office if applicable

Our client is a leading designer and manufacturer of fiber lasers for use in laser cutting, welding and marking applications in a wide range of industries. They are seeking a Principal Control Electronics Engineer to join their electronics engineering team, to lead the design and development of the safety and control electronics solutions. This is a broad role responsible for the whole electronics board design as well as all the software.
This would suit a Senior level Engineer with strong hardware and software electronics experience seeking a new role whereby they can mentor junior engineers (no man management) and be part of a small team working on various industry products including medical in a role where there is still a decent element of technical involvement themselves. Taking responsibility for being the technical lead of the control electronics function, allocating work packages and carrying out upfront compliance work / design, design for safety, systems development, EMC and DFM. Therefore, a real hands on broad leadership role.
Job Purpose:
As a pivotal member of the electronics engineering team, this role will lead the design and development of the control electronics, safety and compliance solutions used in the company’s broad range of fiber laser products. The successful applicant will act as a focus for the control electronics team though the full engineering lifecycle from design and development to prototyping, verification and validation prior to leading certification work in preparation for transfer into full product release.
Key Areas of Responsibility:
• Leading the electronics team in the specification, design and development of control electronics solutions including:
• Design, simulation and testing
• Embedded firmware for microcontrollers and FPGA based control systems
• Product safety and compliance
• Definition and support of the verification and validation requirements of control electronics for new product developments
• Creation and maintenance of project documentation, including transfer of new products, test requirements and processes from Development to Manufacturing
Required Experience:
Several years of experience as a lead design and development engineer in a hi-tech manufacturing environment, ideally with additional experience in:
• Complex high speed control systems (MHz)
• Analogue, Digital and EMC design

As Project Engineer, your responsibilities are to include:

  • Prepare accurate project schedules and capital appropriation requests for all projects.
  • Collaborate closely with the quality, regulatory, facilities, production and marketing departments to acquire their input and/or support to ensure projects are successfully initiated and validated within time frame and budget.
  • Plan, design and specify improvements to existing processes to improve productivity, quality, safety and efficiency. Innovate, design and specify new processes to meet manufacturing requirements, handle the selection of vendors, placement of orders and supervise building progress through to factory acceptance trials.
  • Prepare plant layout in response to changing manufacturing needs for both present and future requirements.
  • Prepare / lead manufacturing and validation document amendments in relation to process change and the introduction of new equipment.
  • Coordinate the failure mode effect analysis process in order to carry out risk analysis of process changes. Provide operational and technical training as necessary.
  • Utilise Six Sigma methodologies (DMAIC) and carry out statistical data analysis to effectively scope and lead improvement activities.
  • Collaborate with other BD Plants to exchange and share process knowledge that may potentially provide cost reductions and efficiency improvements. Keep abreast of newest technology.
  • Ensure projects adhere with Health and Safety legislation, environmental legislation, legislation appropriate to the medical device industry in both Europe and USA, and division / plant procedures.
  • To mentor and give direction to engineering associates under their control with regard to specific tasks and projects.

The successful candidate will have strong electrical and mechanical knowledge and a consistent track record of successfully delivering high value projects within a manufacturing environment. You will be an excellent communicator on all levels, including senior leadership. You will have broad business sense with excellent organisational, finance and planning skills and have a creative approach to overcome obstacles in delivering projects. You will also have effective ‘managing without authority’ skills and be flexible in your outlook.

What is the Role?

As Project Engineer, you will be responsible for the planning and management of the delivery of allocated Rail projects making use of self-delivery teams and the specialist supply chain as appropriate

Responsibilities & Duties will include:

- Managing the Health & Safety of our directly employed workforce and those of our subcontractors to comply with our client’s policies and procedures and our internal policies and procedures.

- Completion of Construction Phase Plans, Works Package Plans and Task Briefings for projects and subcontract work packages (CPP/WPP&TB’s)

- Managing directly employed operatives and specialist subcontractors to ensure they are complying with programme dates and periods allocated for the scope of work

- Liaising with manufacturers and suppliers, calling off plant, equipment and material to meet the programme and interfacing with the site logistics team to ensure deliveries arrive on-site on the agreed date and allocated time slot

- Ensure the works are carried out to comply with the construction drawings, specifications, equipment schedules and BS7671

- Liaise with central services including health and safety, planning and programming, procurement, quality assurance and human resources

- Managing the MEP Programme and report weekly progress to the regional manager/project manager and steps to be taken to address any slippage

- Hold weekly, fortnightly or monthly meetings with suppliers and subcontractors depending on the critical nature of their work and record actions

- Ensure good administration of the project using our Project FileRoom system, including the information flow to manufacturers, suppliers and subcontractors from the document controller

What do I need?

You will have a proven track record in successfully managing and delivering the electrical works packages within a Rail environment with a contract value of ranging from £50k to £750k.

You’ll hold a qualification in electrical engineering.

Technically you will be fully conversant with all electrical installations including: switchgear, distribution cabling, circuit wiring, fixtures & fittings. You’ll understand the importance of commissioning management from the design stage through to the completion of the works.

With strong leadership skills, you’ll motivate and manage your team to ensure the project is delivered to client timescales and to the highest standard. As a team player, you’ll be confident liaising at all levels of a large organisation, working with operations/commercial/procurement/IT/engineering to achieve set goals.

Additionally you will be well organised with excellent IT skills and will have a positive approach to handling problems and resolving issues.

You’ll be experienced in efficient use of Microsoft systems such as Outlook, word and excel
