Product Designer Jobs Overview
Product designers work on the design and development of a variety of products, from furniture items to consumer electronics. A product design job requires creativity but also the ability to work within a budget. Product designers work on creating new products and also on re-designing existing ones with a focus on improving usability, safety, or the cost of production. The job not only involves design tasks, but also testing prototypes, conducting research, creating product models, creating design briefs and proposals, selecting materials, attending meetings, and liaising with sales, marketing, or research departments. Technical skills include the ability to draw and sketch 2D and 3D models and expert knowledge of computer-aided tools and software, such as SolidWorks, AutoDesk, and Illustrator. Occasional travel may be required.
