The posts are rotational across DME, Orthopaedics (trauma and Elective), Medicine, Surgery, Acute Neuro, Neuro Rehabilitation (at Clatterbridge Rehab Centre) and our Unplanned Care Team (A&E and assessment areas). There maybe opportunities in the future to gain experience in social services and other community services.

Main duties of the job

Post holders will independently manage their own caseload and contribute to departmental and service needs across 7 days. You will be required to have excellent interpersonal and communication skills, and be committed to team working and patient care. You will be required to work across 2 sites depending on your rotation; Arrowe Park Hospital and Clatterbridge Hospital

You will receive support from experienced senior clinical staff, regular supervision and training.

We are currently looking to recruit a highly motivated and enthusiastic Band 6 Occupational Therapist to work within our HMP Liverpool service. It is essential that you have an interest in working with individuals with mental health difficulties within forensic services. This is an exciting opportunity to become part of a successful and ambitious team, and to make a real difference in a fast paced and challenging environment. Experience in service development would be advantageous due to the demands of the role relating to developing and leading on occupational therapy provision in a prison environment.

You will be expected to work autonomously and will be supported by working in partnership with the multi-disciplinary team. You will be responsible for the on-going planning and development of the occupational therapy service within the prison, including managing a designated caseload undertaking assessments and providing interventions using the Occupational Therapy process within the clinical framework of the Occupational Therapy Treatment and Care pathway.

Our Secure Division is responsible for specialist secure mental health services, for service users with complex needs and classifications of mental illness and personality disorders. You will contribute to the delivery of high standards of care and treatment based at HMP Liverpool, which is a category B prison in the Walton District of Liverpool.

The post holder will assess the service users care needs, establish and revise care plans and care pathways whilst working as a member of a multi-disciplinary team.

You will be required to demonstrate enthusiasm and commitment; using effective communication skills and the ability to perform under pressure.

Static Band 6 Occupational Therapist – Complex Rehab

B6 OT - Static position (Full Time/Permanent) 37.5 hours

We are looking for a motivated and enthusiastic Band 6 Occupational Therapist who would be interested in becoming a static member of the team based on our 15 bedded, Level 2 Rehabilitation Unit.

The Liverpool University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust provides this rehabilitation unit as part of a hub and spoke arrangement for Cheshire and Merseyside Rehabilitation Network (CMRN). This is a unique collaborative pathway with 7 partners that provides complex rehabilitation to patients following traumatic injury or illness and is based on need not diagnosis. The pathway goes from hyperacute to community.

The unit, (Ward 5 – Phoenix Unit) on the Broadgreen site, provides active rehabilitation for patients with complex functional loss, such as those with ABI, polytrauma, and post-critical care patients.

The well-established team consists of physiotherapists, occupational therapists, dietitian, speech and language therapist, psychology, nursing and medical staff with assistants and support staff. The role requires excellent interpersonal and communication skills and a commitment to effective multidisciplinary team working and skill sharing, working with multiple external agencies/services.

The successful candidate will also have the opportunity to be part of the Cheshire and Merseyside Rehabilitation Network development groups and to contribute to the continued improvement of the pathway. This static position will give the staff member opportunities to fully participate in the education, training, audits, research and service development projects undertaken by the CMRN.

The post holder will be required to act as Deputy for the Band 7 Team Lead in their absence and they should have some experience and skills in complex rehabilitation (including neurological and trauma). The teams are led by highly skilled senior clinicians and are supported by Therapy Managers, all of whom are committed to the development of staff and services. There will be training opportunities and regular performance and development reviews. The post holder will supervise junior staff, assistants and students.

We are looking for someone who is committed to proactive team-working with other professionals and agencies, and who recognises the importance of demonstrating outcomes and meeting performance targets as part of excellent clinical care. We provide flexible patient and carer centred services, and there is therefore a requirement to work contracted hours over a 7 day rota and extended days when required.

As one of the first established specialist Stroke units in the country, Aintree Stroke Centre has led the way in innovation and service development in Merseyside and across the wider North West region. The Stroke team is led by experienced clinicians and supported by a highly skilled, dedicated multidisciplinary team. Aintree Stroke Centre is currently a combined HASU, acute and rehabilitation unit with very close working relationships with ESD. We are entering an exciting time in the development of stroke services across the Trust, the city and the wider North Mersey Footprint. We have close working relationships with Cheshire and Mersey ISDN.

As a static member of the team, you will be responsible for the assessment and treatment of stroke patients at all stages of the stroke pathway including hyperacute, acute and rehabilitation. You will expected to work across the inpatient stroke pathway including facilitating early supported discharge in the community. You will be responsible for band 5 and assistant supervision as well as service development projects and training across the stroke MDT. You will work closely with a well-established integrated therapy team of Occupational Therapists, physiotherapists, speech and language therapists and assistants. You will be involved in national audit and local data collection and contribute to the achievement of National SSNAP targets.

You must be able to work effectively on your own and as part of a team. You should be motivated towards service development and improvement and keen to learn new skills. You would be expected to work flexibly across a seven day service and extended shift patterns.

You will be clinically supported by experienced stroke specialist occupational therapists and MDT team leads . You will have access to regular supervision.

About the Home

Brook View is a nursing home with a difference!

This purpose built service in Liverpool will be home for 32 service users but will not have the traditional nursing home feel. The unique layout at Brook View means that we can care for adults with a vast array of complex mental and physical health needs and associated challenging behaviours.

We are looking for an Occupational Therapist to join our therapy services in Brook View, alongside the support of a Physiotherapist and Therapy Assistant.  Your enthusiasm, warmth and compassion are fundamental in helping our service users to feel respected, included and cared for.  Working with our team of specialist nurses and support workers you will be expected to contribute to integrated care planning with the aim of enabling our services users to reach their goals.

Key Duties:
  • Taking responsibility for a clinical caseload
  • Carrying out assessments and reviews, ensuring that service users receive appropriate treatment
  • Using appropriate communication skills and tools to communicate with service users
  • Monitoring, evaluating and recording patient progress,  modifying treatment plans as required
  • Liaising with agencies including GPs, consultants, hospital staff, PCTs and social services
  • Liaising with the nursing team and care staff
  • Working as part of a team
  • Assisting with the training of other health care staff as required
Requirements:
 
We expect that you will be a qualified Occupational Therapist with at least 1-year post qualification experience, ideally from within the private sector however this is not essential. Experience acquired brain injury, mental health, and neurological care would also be advantageous, however, full training is provided via our comprehensive induction.

Clinical Specialist Occupational Therapist- Complex Rehabilitation - Inpatients

Due to service expansion and relocation of the current potholder we require a highly specialist Occupational Therapist experienced in level 1 and level 2 rehabilitation to join our specialist multi-disciplinary team. Whilst managing a small clinical case load you will be responsible the clinical leadership and operational management of the in-patient Rehab Occupational Therapy team.

Working closely with the Rehabilitation Consultants and the wider MDT you will demonstrate exceptional clinical and interpersonal skills and be able to communicate at all levels. A resourceful and flexible approach to service delivery is essential.
Appraisal, supervision and professional support will be provided along with protected CPD time.

You will be part of a re-designed Crisis Resolution & Home Treatment team that will provide an alternative to in-patient admission, support to people who are in crisis and will also support early discharge from hospital. This approach will involve working a flexible rota seven days a week in providing assessment, interventions and supervision for workers to support recovery of our service users the details of this rota is for discussion with the candidates.

You should have had previous experience of working in mental health, preferably in an acute setting and are keen to contribute new ideas. This is a single post in an expanding team that is taking on a 24 hour 7 day a week crisis and home treatment role from early 2021.

Main duties of the job
