NVQ Assessor Jobs Overview

An NVQ Assessor helps and supports people working towards a vocational qualification, as well as assessing whether the candidate has met their course requirements. The job involves visiting NVQ candidates in their workplace or training centre, observing and assessing their training progress, and often putting together training workshops or courses to help the students fulfil their course requirements. It is a job suited to those who like to mentor others and help them reach their potential, as well as being suitable for those who enjoy variety and challenge in their work.

An NVQ Assessor needs to have relevant qualifications or work experience in the field they wish to assess. This can be any vocational subject, such as construction jobs or leisure jobs. Assessors will also need a Level 3 Award or equivalent in assessing. Opportunities exist to qualify as an NVQ Verifier after taking a qualification such as the Level 4 Award in Internal Quality Assurance of Assessment Processes and Practice.

The Office for National Statistics (ONS) figures show that there is a vacancy gap of 30% in the sector owing to skill shortages, meaning applicants wishing to pursue a career in this field have a good chance of securing a position. This will, however, naturally depend on how widespread the need for assessment training in the particular field is. As the vocational nature of NVQ training often involves jobs working shifts, an NVQ assessor must be flexible with working hours and be able to assess students within their normal working patterns.
