Nursery nurses have a range of duties. Safeguarding children is the most important aspect, but helping those children with basic literacy and numeracy is also crucial. There is a good chance of career progression in this job. Nursery nurses can progress to a nursery manager job or a senior nursery officer.

Nursery Nurse Education Requirements

Academic qualifications are not usually necessary to begin a junior role such a nursery assistant job, although some employers might expect a candidate to hold 'C' grades or above at GCSE English and Maths. What is required, however, is a Level 2 or 3 qualification in childcare, and a full check from the Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS). Another route into this line of work is through apprenticeships. If a nursery nurse gains a good amount of experience, a degree in childcare could open up a pathway to a teaching assistant job or nursery management.
