Night Shift Jobs Overview

A night shift job is not specific to one line of work. Many employers utilise night shift workers in order to maximise profits and meet targets by working around the clock. For example, night shift roles can be found in warehouses, retails stores, restaurants/fast food outlets, night clubs/bars, and within public services (such as hospitals, prisons and police stations). Companies that operate 24/7 helplines also utilise night shift workers in order help customers at any time and in any part of the world. Many night shifts jobs offer increased pay over daytime work due to the inconvenient working hours.

Night Shift Jobs Education Requirements

As stated previously, many lines of work requires employees to work the night shift, and as a result the educational requirements for night shift jobs varies depending on the job title - although many require GCSE Maths and English. For example, a maintenance engineer job for night shifts may require some form of electrical qualification, as well as previous experience in the role. In contrast, working in a customer service role may require no education requirements but instead favours proven communicational skills.

Night Shift Jobs Market

As you may expect, the competitiveness for night shift jobs will vary depending on the position involved, and will therefore be most related to the strength of the industry in which it resides. However, in contrast to day shift roles, night shift jobs may be less competitive due to the aforementioned inconvenient hours worked.

Night Shift Jobs Salary Information

The salary for a night shift job will be dictated by the job role. However, most companies offer higher rates of pay in comparison to day time roles to act as incentives. For example, whilst customer service jobs may pay around £7 an hour during the day, the same position as a night shift role may be closer to the £11 mark.
