NDT Jobs Education Requirements
There is no fixed route into non-destructive testing, but most NDT technicians enter the job through an engineering background, whether via an apprenticeship, a HNC/HND, or a degree. Once working in the field, it is possible to work towards industry certification via an award such as the Personnel Certification in Non-Destructive Testing (PCN) or via an in-house program. Experience gained in other engineering jobs or science jobs will be advantageous and can provide a sideways route into non-destructive testing.

Entry-level NDT technicians can expect to earn a salary of between £17,000 and £21,000 a year, while more experienced employees with certification can see this rise to £23,000 and all the way up to £35,000. Senior non-destructive testers with specialist knowledge, experience, and management responsibilities can command salaries of £40,000 or higher.
