Preston Lodge High School is a non-denominational secondary school serving the communities of Cockenzie, Port Seton, Longniddry and Prestonpans. Our roll is currently 943, and the school is easily commutable from Edinburgh. The strengths of our school are:
• The high morale and positive ethos of the school community
• The contributions of young people to improvements
• The work of staff across the school in supporting young people’s learning
Our motivated staff, students, parents, carers and the community we serve have worked hard to further improve all aspects of our school.
Our work is now focused on continuously improving our approach to classroom practice, in order to develop student and staff learning, improve attainment and close the equity gap. Our staff and students work together to develop an understanding of not just what key skills should be learned by students, but how they should be learned and why they are important.
Our new curriculum fully meets the expectations of Curriculum for Excellence, and we are increasingly exploring alternative awards for young people. For example, we are one of the biggest user of the Open Universities Young Applicants in Scottish Schools scheme and have an increasing number of students participating in Youth Achievement Awards.
Our school values inclusion, and we have a very diverse range of young people in our care. A number of them face significant learning barriers, and our small inclusion team works hard to help these students realise their ambitions. The post involves working with small groups students who have a range of additional support needs. Our Inclusion team is a key part of our school culture, working in partnership with teaching staff and students. We are looking for a highly motivated, effective and nurturing person to join us and to help us secure positive futures for our young people.
This is an exciting time for Preston Lodge High School, and the community it serves. Further details about the school can be found on our website at http://www.prestonlodge.net
