Maintenance Operative (Multi-Trade)

Rydon

We are currently seeking an experienced Multi-Trade Maintenance Operative to join Newton Abbot Community Hospital based Maintenance team. Rydon Maintenance is an expanding division of the Rydon Group and is successfully providing facilities management services to a variety of clients, predominantly within the healthcare sector. We combine a personal touch with outstanding technical expertise to deliver award-winning, quality facilities for local communities with a commitment from people who are passionate about what they do.

Find out more about Rydon by watching our careers videos:

As a Multi-Skilled Maintenance Operative, your role is extremely important in ensuring that reactive and planned maintenance activities are completed to a high standard. Working as part of a small directly employed maintenance team, the role is based at Newton Abbot Community Hospital. This is an NHS facility with both inpatient (30 beds) and outpatient facilities. The role is a static maintenance role, meaning that you will be based at this site and rarely need to travel to other sites managed by Rydon. Originally built by Rydon, the hospital conducts a range of non-emergency and diagnostic treatments and operates 24 hours. We provide maintenance services between 8am and 5:30pm, as well as operating and out of hours/on-call rota (which rarely requires attending the site outside of the normal working hours).

The role involves undertaking repairs to building fabric, and typically includes Carpentry, Plumbing, Basic Electrical (changing of lamps, installation of new sockets etc), replacement of door furniture, painting/decorating and much more. We operate a reactive repairs service which requires work to be undertaken quickly, safely and to an excellent standard in order to keep the hospital operational and patients safe. We also have a PPM (planned/preventative maintenance schedule) and as such, the role offers a good blend of scheduled work, and reactive repairs meaning that no two days are the same.

The successful candidate will work from 8am to 5:30pm, Monday to Friday. You will have the opportunity to work ‘out of hours/on-call’, for which an additional standby allowance payment will be made, plus time and a half/double time for hours worked (depending on the day of the week/time worked).

In order to be considered for this role, you should demonstrate a strong maintenance and/or repairs background within multiple trades. You should hold a suitable trade qualification (City and Guilds, or equivalent). Ideally maintenance experience would have been gained within a healthcare setting, however, if your maintenance experience has been gained in another commercial setting (hotel, shopping centres, supermarkets) etc. In addition, you will be in contact with service users on a day to day basis, as such it is important that you also have excellent customer service and communication skills so that any queries from a service user or staff member can be handled with care. Finally, excellent health and safety awareness and understanding is key - particularly given that this role is based in a live healthcare environment.

If you have the above experience and looking for your next challenge, we could be just what you’re looking for. Please apply including your CV on our website using the ‘apply’ button.

As a well established, progressive company we are committed to attracting and retaining individuals by offering an excellent benefits package that includes a wide range of core and voluntary benefits.
