• A' levels - achieved at least 200 points at A/AS level (including DD at GCE A2 for two science subjects or equivalent)
• 5 GCSE's or equivalent, (Grade C or above including Maths, Science and English)

• Apply methods and techniques to test the quality of raw materials, intermediary and final products and ensure results are within company and customer quality control specifications.
• Use a variety of instrumentation to conduct chemical analysis.
• Prepare reagents for testing of product samples.
• Produce certificate of analysis for raw materials, intermediate and finished goods, including positive release of products when the product specification has been confirmed through testing.
• Conduct laboratory equipment calibration, verification, and daily checks.
• Ensure that quality levels are maintained in accordance with relevant company procedures and documentation is accurately completed.
• Maintain stock levels of consumable chemicals or other items to ensure no stockouts.
• Auditor and member of internal audit team.
• Conduct environmental swabbing when needed.
• Ensure all operations are conducted in line with current Health and Safety legislations.

• Educated to degree level with an appropriate qualification in chemistry, food science or general science.
• Demonstrable experience of using HPLC, GC / FID, ICP -OES or other chemical equipment.
• Internal Audit Certification would be an advantage.
• Previous working experience conducting laboratory tests with the ability to follow agreed laboratory procedures, within a manufacturing, or process environment.
• Previous working experience within a food production environment would be an advantage.
• Knowledge of how to operate and maintain instruments such as GC / FID, HPLC, ICP-OES, Karl Fisher Coulometer, Rancimat and UV / VIS spectrophotometer and wet chemistry methods of analysis.
• Some experience of conducting internal audits would be an advantage.
• Experience of working with and interpreting technical documents including vendor and customer specifications.
• Excellent IT skills developed in the workplace, for instance using spreadsheet for entering internal quality control data.
• Demonstrable knowledge of BRC and FEMAS standards would be an advantage.
• Need to be able to participate in the shift pattern involving weekends and early / evening weekday hours.

Purpose of the Job: 

To work, as part of a laboratory-based team, in the development of new energy curable liquid inks and intermediates for the global label and packaging market. Provide technical support for existing UV-curing flexographic inks and intermediates. Carry out a range of daily tasks in the Technical Centre as required. 

• The successful candidate will be an integral part of a development team working on a variety of technical issues regarding energy curable liquid inks and intermediates.

KEY TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• You will be focusing on: Carrying out the day-to-day quality control processes within the operational and lab environments
• Ensure that raw material, in-process, and product testing is effectively, accurately and promptly carried out using specified methods
• Review pre-batch powders sheets for corrections or make conversions /adjustments on admixture sheets.
• Accurately record results in Day Books and SAP.
• Advise on corrective actions and appropriate recording methods to maintain manufactured product within specification
• Performing additional quality related testing and investigation
• Perform and record production first off checks ‘Right first time' Audits
• Prepare small quantities of product when required for testing purposes.
• Carry out and report upon investigative test work required i.e., non-conforming product, goods returned, ageing stock, customer returns or alternative sources of raw materials.
• Fulfil periodic testing and recording requirements in line with Trade Effluent consent, related to COD, suspended solids etc.
• Manage rework to return to stock, or to be disposed of, via Quarantine Database and/or Specialist Waste log following the quarantine procedure.
• Undertaking Quality Lab related administration tasks
• Assist in preparation of new QC Specifications and provision of information to ensure the on-going accuracy of such documentation.
• Devise and prepare new Test Procedures and assist in developing existing ones
• Advise upon any laboratory equipment, the acquisition of which could improve the efficiency and/or accuracy of Quality Control testing.
• Adhering to professional standards that ensure the quality and effectiveness of the laboratory
• Maintain a high standard of laboratory cleanliness.
• Ensure that test equipment is properly and correctly used, calibrated, and maintained to specified standards and that safe working practices are adopted at all times.
• Ensure that adequate materials are available in the laboratory in order to fulfil the Quality Control function.

WORKING HOURS: 40 per week Monday to Friday. 07:30 - 16:00 30 min unpaid break.
