Holiday Rep Overview
Holiday representatives play an important role in the leisure and hospitality industry, as their main role involves guaranteeing customer satisfaction. Holiday reps act as intermediaries between holidaymakers and companies, providing on-site assistance, information, handling complaints, and organising and leading tours and excursions. Representatives are required to have in-depth knowledge of the local area, excellent people- and problem-solving skills, and a passion for travel and customer service. Weekend/shift work is often required, as is willingness to work abroad temporarily.
Holiday Rep Education Requirements
Personal qualities and relevant experience carry significant weight in this industry. However, having a qualification related to the travel and hospitality sector is beneficial for those looking for a job as a holiday rep. Employers value qualifications like NVQs in Travel and Tourism, HNDs in Hotel and Catering Management, or university degrees in leisure and tourism, business management, and hospitality. Online training is available through the Holiday Rep Diploma. Representatives who choose to work with children or young people may be required to obtain a CRB.
Holiday Rep Market
Holiday rep jobs are highly seasonal, although most vacancies are available during the months immediately preceding the summer season. In some warm weather destinations (Far East, Caribbean), jobs may be available all year round. Positions range from travel agent jobs to independent tour operator jobs, whilst other employers are private holiday accommodation owners, large resorts, and camp sites. Career opportunities exist in the form of resort management, team leader roles or office-based positions, such as receptionist jobs.
Holiday Rep Salary Information
Holiday rep salaries range from £450 / month for junior positions to £800+ / month for more experienced representatives. While this figure may seem low, holiday reps benefit from free accommodation, and board is often included or available at a discounted price. In addition, representatives may have access to a range of benefits that can be included as part of their salary package, such as comprehensive travel and medical insurance, transportation from their regular place of residence to the resort or workplace, free use of the resort's facilities, and important discounts in the travel industry.
