Job Summary

East Dunbartonshire is seeking to recruit fully qualified primary and secondary teachers and existing primary and secondary probationer teachers who have achieved full GTCS registration primary and secondary to cover short term and fixed term temporary supply teaching positions throughout the Council area.

Supply teachers are recognised as particularly important in ensuring continuity for pupils in terms of effective teaching and learning.

For many newly qualified teachers, supply teaching provides and introduction to the authority and helps to establish a body of practical experience, often in a range of schools, which will support applications for permanent appointments.

Some of the temporary supply positions will be in the denominational sector and will require RC Church Approval.

Supply Teachers, other than probationers, who are registered with the General Teaching Council Scotland will be paid the appropriate salary scale in accordance with SNCT Conditions of Service.

Probationers will be placed on Point 0 of the SNCT salary scale until they have achieved full registration with the General Teaching Council Scotland

North Berwick High School is a six-year non-denominational, co-educational secondary school. The catchment area includes five partner primary schools in Law PS (North Berwick), Dirleton PS, Gullane PS, Aberlady PS and Athelstaneford PS. The school also attracts a number of placing requests from outwith the catchment area. The current school roll is 1002,. This roll is predicted to increase to 1200 by 2025, with a £7.3 million extension to the school underway.  As well as a new 3-storey classroom block, there will be internal refurbishment, including a drama studio, science labs, a support base and expanded dining hall. Once this expansion is completed, NBHS will be equipped to provide further high quality learning experiences for our young people.  HMI carried out a full inspection of the school in February 2020.

Musselburgh Grammar School is a non-denominational school. It serves the town of Musselburgh as well as Wallyford and Whitecraig. At the end of Primary 7, pupils come to us from Campie Primary School, Pinkie St. Peters Primary School, Musselburgh Burgh Primary School, Stoneyhill Primary School, Wallyford Primary School and Whitecraig Primary School.

The school is placed over a four storey building. Accommodation comprises of up-to-date ICT suites, Physical Education facilities and Science laboratories. All classrooms have access to Promethean whiteboards and more recently, departments have been given access to Google Chrome Books to develop digital literacy across the school.

The roll is currently at 1198. Due to the additional housing allocated in the local development plan this is projected to increase to 1237 by 2022. Musselburgh Grammar School has young people living in all SIMD deciles other than decile 1 and 12% of our young people access Free School Meal entitlement. The staffing complement for the school is 88 FTE, plus an allocation of probationers, music and science technicians and sports coordinator time. 

The Senior Leadership Team consists of the Head Teacher and four Depute Head Teachers; each with a strategic remit linked to How Good is Our School 4. PVG Membership
This post is considered as Regulated Work with vulnerable children and/or protected adults, as specified in the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (Scotland) Act 2007.

All preferred candidates for posts carrying out regulated work with these groups will be required to become a PVG Scheme member, or undergo a PVG Scheme update if they are already a member, prior to any formal offer of employment being made by East Lothian Council.

Please Note - Pay arrangements for those starting after 1st day of school session
In accordance with Teachers Conditions of Service (SNCT - Appendix 2.19), Teachers who commence employment with East Lothian Council after the first day of the school session will have their salary for the remainder of the school salary year (which runs from 1 August to 31 July each year),  recalculated to reflect how teachers accrue leave and pay.   

In these circumstances, a calculation will be carried out upon commencement of employment and leave and pay will be adjusted.  Further information will be provided to the successful candidate should this be applicable.
