Gym Jobs Education Requirements

According the National Careers Service, most personal trainers and upper-level roles will require at least a a bachelor's degree in physiology, human anatomy or health sciences. However, many who wish to enjoy a competitive edge could opt for a master's degree with a specialisation in fields such as applied kinesiology or sport psychology. Additional requirements could also include basic first aid techniques as well as a certification in the administration of CPR during an emergency. Applicants who are seeking only entry-level positions may require little experience other than a keen desire to help others achieve their goals.

Owing to an increasing awareness of health and fitness throughout the United Kingdom among the public in general, there are a number of gym vacancies available as this sector grows. This is particularly the case in reference when it comes to major cities such as London and Birmingham. This sector is largely dominated by male workers, with only 39 per cent of qualified personal trainers being women. However these numbers may soon be changing as more lucrative roles such as general managers become available. It is estimated that this sector experiences a slightly higher vacancy rate when compared to other industries, meaning fitness enthusiasts could very well be entering into a burgeoning job market.

Gym Jobs Salary Information

According to PayScale, the median salary associated with a certified personal trainer is £19,323 pounds per year, though this can vary from region to region and this figure does not take into account overtime, profit-sharing schemes or yearly bonuses. Those with more experience could also be paid significantly more. Supervisory roles such as a district manager are likely to correlate with a much higher pay grade.
