Roles and responsibilities

  •  Manage relationships with external agencies, ensuring they deliver on time and to the brief; 
Essential: 
  •  Degree-educated (or equivalent) in Graphic Design or another relevant subject
    5+ years’ experience in a similar role 
  • Experience of developing and managing a visual identity for a brand 
  • Experience of creating a range of content for different channels, including digital and print 
  • Excellent Adobe Suite skills (especially Illustrator, Photoshop and InDesign)

Our client is looking for an experienced and technically minded Graphic Designer to join their studio on a short-term contract. Our client is a design agency that transform content into beautiful and engaging materials that educate and inspire learners around the globe. World-renowned publishers return to them because they have a team of exceptional people who deliver stunning design, technically accurate files, on-budget and to deadline.

Our client is specifically looking for an InDesign power user - someone who knows all the tips and tricks to be able to work methodically, consistently and quickly on long formatted documents. You don't necessarily need to have worked in publishing before but experience of working technically on long documents is a must.

Key duties of the role include:

  • setting up jobs - developing clean, well-structured templates ready to start production;
  • formatting text into accurate styles using GREP to facilitate this;
  • carrying out corrections to proofs according to editorial mark-up using standard proof correction marks;
  • layout of pages integrating photos and illustration with the text to create visually striking and balanced pages;
  • producing complex 'realia' (examples of written English) independently;
  • producing original solutions to educational books, covers and digital material which can be used as templates for production;
  • using Adobe Creative Suite to its full potential. The client has team membership of Creative Cloud so you will have full access to all of the Adobe CC software.

You will want to work with our client if you:

  • know how to use InDesign to the max (text variables, advanced GREP and scripting)
  • love typography and editorial design and applying this to some of the most visually complex work in educational publishing
  • are meticulous when it comes to attention for detail

Required Qualifications

Years of Experience in Related Field: 10+ years as an interaction, user experience, or a product designer role

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Interaction Design, HCI, Graphic Design, or other related discipline or equivalent experience. Master’s degree preferred.

 

Design/Specialized Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Proficiency in user research, user needs evaluation, metrics and measurements, IA, interaction design, prototyping, visual design, stakeholder management, design strategy and planning, and workshop facilitation
  • Expert knowledge of design processes and methodology
  • Ability to lead lean UX practice (rapid discovery, prototyping, testing and iteration)
  • Leadership skills to inspire and mentor others
  • Experience working with large data sets/volumes of information
  • Knowledge of responsive design, native iOS and Android design
  • Fluency in Figma
  • Excellent written, verbal and visual communication skills to articulate concepts, feedback and rationale and promote Design led initiatives
