To support the expansion of our Critical care bed base, we are looking for a skilled and experienced Physiotherapist to join our friendly, busy Respiratory + Critical Care Team at the Royal Cornwall Hospital Trust. This respiratory post covers the respiratory ward + outliers, acute NIV, Critical Care, Respiratory Outpatients, as well as providing respiratory education to the wider acute team, alongside 2 other rotational band 6 respiratory specialist physiotherapists.
The NIV role;- This role includes acute retrieval/initiation of NIV from ED/wards. Following the patient’s from the ED to the designated respiratory specialist ward. The ability to deliver specialist advice regarding machine settings, interface and weaning will be required and training will be provided to expand existing knowledge. This role includes being able to lead on the specialist education of NIV to the wider MDT and once trained, the ability to take blood gases. There is responsibility for attending ward rounds with the respiratory consultant as well as participating in the treatment and management of respiratory patients on the specialist respiratory ward.
The Critical care role:- This role is based in our 19 bedded critical care unit at RCH. The caseload is a mixed of level 3 and level 2 patients, from acutely ill fully ventilated patients’ to those requiring early rehabilitation. The role also includes critical care rehab and following complex patients with their rehab on the wards as part of the critical care MDT.
The education role:- Whilst working across the respiratory physiotherapy service in a clinical capacity, this role includes developing the specialist respiratory skills within the team and to ensure the wider acute on-call team are up to date with their respiratory skills. This role has access to the Critical Care educators, the Learning and development team and the Simulation suite.
This post is fully supported by the clinical lead in Respiratory / Critical care and ongoing training will be provided.
We are looking for a team member who can provide decisive and effective Physiotherapy input. We are looking for a physio who is motivated to develop the respiratory service, whilst delivering effective, evidence based treatment.
