Evening Jobs Overview

Evening work is ideal for students or for people in families with young children, as it gives the opportunity to earn extra money without childcare costs when one parent works days and the other evenings or nights. Many evening jobs are in the hospitality industry, ranging from bar jobs to waiting, but other opportunities include supermarket work, cleaning, care jobs and various types of driving. Many evening jobs work on a shift or rota basis, and so candidates will need to be flexible with working hours and be able to work weekends as well as weekday evenings.

Evening Jobs Education Requirements

There are no particular educational requirements for evening work, although it is usually helpful to have a driving licence and your own car if your shift times make using public transport difficult. Individual jobs may have particular qualifications which are necessary to hold, but often the main requirements are an aptitude for work, flexibility, and a willingness to learn.

Evening Jobs Market

Many part time evening jobs recruit on a casual basis, and the competition for work depends on the particular job. It can be quite easy to pick up bar work, and supermarkets regularly recruit for people to work unsocial hours. Many evening workers are women with children although this is far from always the case, while evening work is a good way for students to pay their way through their education.

Evening Jobs Salary Information

Many evening jobs start with earnings at or around the national minimum wage, although this can rise depending on experience and qualifications. Also, if you work an evening job in the hospitality industry you often have the opportunity to increase your income with tips, which can be a substantial proportion of earnings in many jobs. Some evening jobs will also pay a premium for unsocial hours compared to the equivalent daytime job, and increasing earnings with overtime is also a possibility.
