As a Principal Ecologist, you will join our team of over 50 ecologists, who have more than 30 years of experience undertaking ecological surveys and assessments, as well as the provision of advice on soil, land use, hydrological and sustainable drainage issues, arboriculture, ecosystem service, natural capital assessment, biodiversity strategies and metrics and cultural heritage. During this time, we have undertaken over 2,000 projects covering a wide range of environmental disciplines throughout the UK, in Europe and beyond, for public and private clients.
Presently, we are engaged on a variety of large and interesting projects, including Urban and Greenfield Residential Development, Highway and Rail Schemes, Power Stations, Electrical and Gas Infrastructure, and are working for a wide selection of clients based throughout the UK, including EDF Energy, National Grid, the Environment Agency, Transport for London, Highways England, Network Rail, the Canal and River Trust, and Housing Associations. We are also involved in international work via Environmental, Social and Health Impact Assessments and our natural capital community of practice.
Reporting to the Team Leader, you will be accountable for the quality control, coordination and completion of assigned tasks and projects within the Business Unit or project team. As we operate in such a diverse marketplace, we can safely say that you will gain experience of working on a wide and varied portfolio of projects which will enhance your skills and test your technical knowledge.
As a Principal Consultant, you will be responsible for leading and managing the delivery of a range of projects to meet time, budgetary and SHEQ targets, managing the ecological aspects of the client relationship so that delivery exceeds client expectations. You will take a leadership role on projects and within the team, providing both direction and technical advice and leading by example.
We will ensure that we offer personal development which will allow you to progress your career and offer you the opportunity to be mentored by industry-recognised Technical Leaders in their field who will lend you their experience and ensure that the training you receive will give you the best possible chance of success.
Responsibilities of this role include, but are not limited to
Manage projects (particularly budgets and cashflow), attend meetings, provide advice to clients and manage bid production
Have responsibility for technical quality / approval of project deliverables
Undertake ecological surveys, oversee/undertake the analysis of results of field surveys,
Manage and/or produce Preliminary Ecological Appraisals (PEAs), impact assessments, biodiversity strategies and other documents
Provide advice on ecological issues, both at an in-depth level within own area of expertise but also on a broad range of issues
Compile licence applications, including developing mitigation and monitoring
Undertake/supervise mitigation and monitoring of licensed work and liaise with statutory authorities
Undertake performance management of assigned team members and provide training at staff meetings and to smaller groups of staff
Design research projects and contribute to the development of best practice with respect to training and survey standards, as appropriate

Requirements

Excellent commercial and project management skills for a range of project sizes
Detailed knowledge of ecological principles, biodiversity metrics, relevant environmental and ecological impact assessment (EcIA) legislation, policy and guidance
In-depth knowledge of particular plant or animal groups and appropriate field survey skills
Proven track record in writing and delivering Preliminary Ecological Appraisals (PEAs), writing and/or delivering Biodiversity Net Gain assessments, Ecological Impact Assessments (EcIAs) and Ecology Chapters for Environmental Statements
Proven track record in writing project and/or plan-level HRAs
Proven experience of bid production for a range of projects and client interaction
Ability to line manage and potentially to lead a team
Hold survey and/or mitigation/conservation licences
Leads in the design and compliance of biosecurity and health and safety protocols
Excellent communicator
You will hold a relevant degree, ideally with a further education qualification
Chartered Environmentalist/Ecologist (or demonstrably approaching Chartered Ecologist)

The Role

Due to their ongoing success and ambitious plans moving forward, they are currently looking to recruit a Principal Environmental Consultant to provide independent and original expertise, ingenuity and judgement in the offshore oil and gas and renewables fields. The Principal will act as a Project Manager or Project Director and lead a team of employees both from a team and project perspective. They will help grow the business through strategic business development, promotions, and sales.

 

To be considered for this exciting Principal Environmental Consultant role you will need to have:

  • Be a recognised expert in their field with strong technical capability in marine biology, Environmental Impact Assessments of oil and gas and marine renewable energy operations, facilitation of relevant environmental studies, workshops and stakeholder engagement.
  • Provide strategic and statutory environmental advice to clients in a variety of sectors.
  • Build upon existing and develop new client relationships to further the Environment UK business.
  • Provide technical advice, leadership and mentoring to the marine environment team.

Essential requirements for the role would be:

  • A relevant bachelor's degree in biological or other relevant science and a working knowledge of environmental engineering techniques.
  • Significant post-graduate experience in Oil and Gas industry or Oil and Gas consulting sector.
  • Demonstrable experience in offshore renewable energy projects.
  • Excellent knowledge of offshore environmental UK policy and legislation.

What do I need

To be successful in this role, you'll ideally hold a minimum relevant /diploma/degree in Environment Science. In addition to:

- Experience, knowledge and understanding of Environmental Legislative and licencing Requirements

- Experience in the development and implementation of programmes/plans

- Experience in managing budgets, and implementing appropriate controls

- An ability of leading, managing and developing a team

- Proven experience of engaging effectively with regulators in environmental matters and licensing requirements

- Demonstrable ability to work across and build effective relationships with all key stakeholders across NTS functions, suppliers, regulators and UK & ROI Government organisations

- Track record of developing and improving processes, and driving performance

Due to the nature of this role, a Full Driving Licence is required.

The role:

  • Design, deliver and implement the Groups environment and sustainability training, supporting staff to understand their responsibilities, and improve technical awareness of environmental aspects.

Our Environment Business provides ‘source to sea’ asset delivery capability across the UK and Scotland working on both Frameworks and Standalone projects. Since AMP3 we have delivered in excess of £2bn assets for clients such as Yorkshire Water, United Utilities, Anglian Water, Thames Water, Southern Water, Welsh Water and Scottish Water. YOUR ROLE

As a Senior Engineer, you will take full ownership for setting out, engineering control and quality in addition to coordinating and mentoring the site engineering team.

You will;

  • Participate in creating a knowingly safe working environment.
  • Assist the Site Agent in planning and coordinating the project and resources.
  • Coordination of subcontractors to ensure they achieve programme outputs.
  • Write, review and implement Risk Assessments and Method Statements (RAMS)
  • Write, review and implement Inspection Test Plans (ITP’s)
  • Ensure works are carried out as per ITP’s including correct engineering checks, hold points, inspections and tests.
  • Manage the site engineering team, delegate tasks, train & mentor junior engineers.
  • Control and update programmes/attend coordination meetings and daily/2week/monthly and 3 monthly lookaheads as required.
  • Ensure works are in accordance with the Specification Highways Works (SHW), Project Works Information and drawings.
  • Raising design related Request for Information (RFI’s) and Technical Queries (TQ’s).
  • Ensure accurate and timely records are kept including site diaries, quality assurance documentation (QA), photos, as-built surveys, red-line drawings and test results.
  • Constant communication and liaison with the commercial team providing detailed information to allow for accurate financial reporting including compensation events (CE) and early warnings (EW’s).
  • Manage snagging system that records and clears all snags and notifies commercial team and subcontractors.
  • Control and minimise waste on site.
  • Identify/assist in introducing new process, techniques and innovations on site.
  • Ensure all company property under your control is taken care of and stored securely when not in use.

YOU

We are looking for passion and a willingness to deliver excellence. If you have a solid experience as a section/senior engineer with exposure to multidisciplinary projects, then I want to hear from you. You’ll possess advanced setting out skills, able to use Level and EDM with knowledge of GPS preferred. Obviously, you’ll have the usual good stuff such as an HNC or degree in civil engineering and valid CSCS, but we are looking for more than just that-we are looking for the right person to work safely, motivate and manage our site engineers and subcontractors on site as well as strive for exceptional levels of performance, if this is you, call me today!

YOUR ROLE
As Project Engineer your primary role will be the effective management of the interface between the design, commercial (procurement particularly) and delivery functions of the project to ensure time, cost and quality targets are achieved. You will also act as the primary interface with the project site team, providing assistance and accurate information in a timely fashion, checking that all on site activities are aligned with the project requirements, installed correctly, and verifying that systems work as they should.

You will;

  • Participate in creating a knowingly safe working environment.
  • Primarily manage the interface between the pre-construction, design, commercial (procurement particularly) and delivery functions of the project to ensure time, cost and quality targets are achieved 
  • Understand and assist in Pre-construction activities to ensure a seamless transition from project handover
  • Manage the Detailed Design and Procurement phase to ensure we successfully achieve Client CSR & GT Validation sign off’s, whilst maximising our opportunities for procurement savings.
  • Organise any enabling work to ensure a smooth transition to site delivery and monitor the site delivery team to meet all project requirements.
  • Ensure proactive planning of the Commissioning and Testing phase is in place to enable a smooth transition into Takeover / Handover

Description

As a Principal Ecologist, you will join our team of over 50 ecologists, who have more than 30 years of experience undertaking ecological surveys and assessments, as well as the provision of advice on soil, land use, hydrological and sustainable drainage issues, arboriculture, ecosystem service, natural capital assessment, biodiversity strategies and metrics and cultural heritage. During this time, we have undertaken over 2,000 projects covering a wide range of environmental disciplines throughout the UK, in Europe and beyond, for public and private clients.
Presently, we are engaged on a variety of large and interesting projects, including Urban and Greenfield Residential Development, Highway and Rail Schemes, Power Stations, Electrical and Gas Infrastructure, and are working for a wide selection of clients based throughout the UK, including EDF Energy, National Grid, the Environment Agency, Transport for London, Highways England, Network Rail, the Canal and River Trust, and Housing Associations. We are also involved in international work via Environmental, Social and Health Impact Assessments and our natural capital community of practice.
Reporting to the Team Leader, you will be accountable for the quality control, coordination and completion of assigned tasks and projects within the Business Unit or project team. As we operate in such a diverse marketplace, we can safely say that you will gain experience of working on a wide and varied portfolio of projects which will enhance your skills and test your technical knowledge.
As a Principal Consultant, you will be responsible for leading and managing the delivery of a range of projects to meet time, budgetary and SHEQ targets, managing the ecological aspects of the client relationship so that delivery exceeds client expectations. You will take a leadership role on projects and within the team, providing both direction and technical advice and leading by example.

Responsibilities of this role include, but are not limited to
Manage projects (particularly budgets and cashflow), attend meetings, provide advice to clients and manage bid production
Have responsibility for technical quality / approval of project deliverables
Undertake ecological surveys, oversee/undertake the analysis of results of field surveys,
Manage and/or produce Preliminary Ecological Appraisals (PEAs), impact assessments, biodiversity strategies and other documents
Provide advice on ecological issues, both at an in-depth level within own area of expertise but also on a broad range of issues
Compile licence applications, including developing mitigation and monitoring
Undertake/supervise mitigation and monitoring of licensed work and liaise with statutory authorities
Undertake performance management of assigned team members and provide training at staff meetings and to smaller groups of staff
Design research projects and contribute to the development of best practice with respect to training and survey standards, as appropriate

Requirements

Excellent commercial and project management skills for a range of project sizes 
Detailed knowledge of ecological principles, biodiversity metrics, relevant environmental and ecological impact assessment (EcIA) legislation, policy and guidance 
In-depth knowledge of particular plant or animal groups and appropriate field survey skills
Proven track record in writing and delivering Preliminary Ecological Appraisals (PEAs), writing and/or delivering Biodiversity Net Gain assessments, Ecological Impact Assessments (EcIAs) and Ecology Chapters for Environmental Statements
Proven track record in writing project and/or plan-level HRAs
Proven experience of bid production for a range of projects and client interaction 
Ability to line manage and potentially to lead a team 
Hold survey and/or mitigation/conservation licences
Leads in the design and compliance of biosecurity and health and safety protocols 
Excellent communicator 
You will hold a relevant degree, ideally with a further education qualification
Chartered Environmentalist/Ecologist (or demonstrably approaching Chartered Ecologist)
Full member of CIEEM
The ability to travel, when necessary
