Our Emergency Department at University Hospital Lewisham is a vibrant, challenging and rewarding environment in which you can develop your career in ED Nursing. We serve a large and diverse local population who present with a huge range of clinical illnesses and injuries.

The department, incorporating a fully integrated Urgent Care Centre (UCC) is modern and bright, offering state of the art facilities. We see in excess of 120,000 patients per year presenting with a varied and diverse mix of clinical needs and presentations. As well as the UCC clinical areas include Streaming. Triage, Major Treatment area, Resuscitation and our Clinical Decision Unit (CDU). Experienced Band 5 Emergency Department Nurses
The Royal Free Emergency department is passionate about getting it right for patients and their families. In order to achieve this we are looking to recruit experienced Band 5 Nurses who have at least 6 months experience in a critical care setting. This could be an acute medical or surgical ward. Successful candidates will be eligible to commence one of two university accredited A+E courses. Both of which are run within the ED and both have two occurrences a year.
The Royal Free Emergency Department sees over 100,000 patients a year, we have an integrated Paediatric Emergency Department and an Urgent Care Centre. In addition to this we have a consultant led care of the elderly team who assess older patients for appropriate admission or organise enhanced social care support in the community. The Urgent Care Centre within the Emergency Department has ENPs working with the GPs to deliver an efficient and responsive service. The Royal Free Hospital has an active research programme with a number of nursing staff within the department undertaking research projects.
Successful candidates will undertake the:
• Royal Free London NHS Trust “ Foundations of Emergency nursing” which is fully accredited with Middlesex University (15 credits at Level 6)
or
• Royal Free London NHS Trust “Emergency Care Course” which is fully accredited with Greenwich University (20 credits at Level 6)
• Intermediate Life Support Course

Would you like to join our dynamic team of Paediatric Nurses in our Childrens Emergency Department?

We are a friendly dedicated team of Paediatric Nurses and Paediatric consultants. The department is committed to continuous improvements in the service and benefits from having a Paediatric Emergency Nurse Practitioner and Advance Nurse Practitioner service. The Childrens Emergency Department provides nursing care and support to children and young people aged 0-15 years in a purpose built environment. It is co-located to A&E and has its own designated 2 bedded resuscitation area within the unit & is part of the London Major Trauma Network. We have also added a brand new Paediatric Assessment Unit which is co-located to CED to provide care for patients referred by the GP and short stay admissions.

Main duties of the job

We are currently looking to recruit a motivated and enthusiastic band 5 paediatric nurse with experience and a passion for emergency or acute paediatric care. The post holder should be a registered childrens nurse, have excellent communication skills and be keen to promote clinical excellence within our team.

We are dedicated to supporting the development of our paediatric nurses within our service and offer continuing professional development including Trauma Team Member, Burns care, PILS/APLS, Venepuncture and cannulation and progression to Band 6. New starters have a supernumerary period on commencing the post and will be allocated a mentor alongside the practice educator to support you. The trust also has a well-established preceptorship programme which you will be part of which will also see you qualify as a student Supervisor by the end of your first year with us.

Paediatrics achieved an overall Good rating in our 2017 CQC inspection, providing outstanding pathways of care, and innovations within the Childrens Emergency Department. Our most recent inspection in 2020 under Emergency Care we also received a Good rating showing we work as part of an exciting and dynamic multidisciplinary team which includes Paediatricians, Emergency clinicians, Emergency Nurse Practitioners and Advanced Nurse Practitioners.

We are dedicated to supporting the development of our paediatric nurses within our service and offer continuing professional development including Trauma Team Member, Burns care, PILS/APLS, Venepuncture and cannulation and progression to Band 6. New starters have a supernumerary period on commencing the post and will be allocated a mentor alongside the practice educator to support you. The trust also has a well-established preceptorship programme which you will be part of which will also see you qualify as a student Supervisor by the end of your first year with us.

We have a brand new Paediatric assessment unit (PAU) co-located with the Childrens Emergency Department.

We are a friendly dedicated team of Paediatric Nurses and Paediatric consultants. The department is committed to continuous improvements in the service and benefits from having a Paediatric Emergency Nurse Practitioner and Advance Nurse Practitioner service.

We are currently looking to recruit a motivated, enthusiastic, experienced paediatric nurse with experience in the emergency department or acute environment and a passion to provided high quality evidence based care. Our PAU provides an opportunity to care for acutely unwell or injured children that may need a period of assessment following admission through ED prior to discharge, caring for GP referrals, and referrals to the paediatric team. You will monitor, treat and then either admit the child to the ward or discharge home. In addition you will gain experience in nursing acutely ill children in emergency situations.

Main duties of the job

The successful candidate will be involved in helping to create nurse led pathways, as well as ensuring the best most effective process for a smooth running PAU area by working closely alongside the team within the Childrens Emergency Department.

The candidate may be asked to cross cover in the Childrens Emergency Department or other Paediatric area in busy times or if staff are required to be redeployed. This will provide experience that will help with development.

We also have a robust team of Paediatric Emergency Nurse Practitioners and are developing a Paediatric Advanced Nurse Practitioners service. We take pride in the fact that they all have been developed internally by sending on appropriate modules.

Experienced Band 5 Emergency Department Nurses
The Royal Free Emergency department is passionate about getting it right for patients and their families. In order to achieve this we are looking to recruit experienced Band 5 Nurses who have at least 6 months experience in a critical care setting. This could be an acute medical or surgical ward. Successful candidates will be eligible to commence one of two university accredited A+E courses. Both of which are run within the ED and both have two occurrences a year.
The Royal Free Emergency Department sees over 100,000 patients a year, we have an integrated Paediatric Emergency Department and an Urgent Care Centre. In addition to this we have a consultant led care of the elderly team who assess older patients for appropriate admission or organise enhanced social care support in the community. The Urgent Care Centre within the Emergency Department has ENPs working with the GPs to deliver an efficient and responsive service. The Royal Free Hospital has an active research programme with a number of nursing staff within the department undertaking research projects.
Successful candidates will undertake the:
• Royal Free London NHS Trust “ Foundations of Emergency nursing” which is fully accredited with Middlesex University (15 credits at Level 6)
or
• Royal Free London NHS Trust “Emergency Care Course” which is fully accredited with Greenwich University (20 credits at Level 6)
• Intermediate Life Support Course
