The Emergency Department has a co-located Urgent Treatment Centre, a Clinical Decision Unit and a dedicated Childrens Emergency Department. We opened a new Rapid Assessment area at the front of the Emergency Department in order to support new ways of working in the approach to initial assessment. We are a designated Trauma Unit, as part of the North East London and Essex Trauma NetworkWe have very strong nursing leadership and can offer support from our substantial senior team, which includes our two ED Matrons and Paediatric ED Lead Nurses, who provide a clinical support rota. We have a team of Emergency Nurse Practitioners (ENPs) who provide support on a shift by shift basis. We also have a dedicated and innovative Practice Development Nurse, devoted purely to the development of the nursing team
Post holders would be expected to rotate onto nights and weekends on a four-week rota basis.
You will be given the opportunity to rotate through all areas of the department including developing your skills in minor injury in our Urgent Care Centre with support of the ENPs, our 4 bedded Resuscitation Room where we care for critically ill medical or trauma patients, Majors where we assess the majority of ambulance patients, the Clinical Decision Unit ward area and Paediatrics where you will gain knowledge and skills under the supervision of our great team of Paediatric nurses.You be supported by a tailored development plan to succeed in your new role. This include our exciting in-house Emergency Care module (Accredited with Middlesex University at Degree or Masters Level), working alongside our Practice Development Nurse and through substantial clinical skills or life support courses offered within the Trust. We also commission places with University Providers and are able to offer places on Mentorship, Physical Assessment or other courses at degree or Masters level.

Experienced Band 5 Emergency Department Nurses
The Royal Free Emergency department is passionate about getting it right for patients and their families. In order to achieve this we are looking to recruit experienced Band 5 Nurses who have at least 6 months experience in a critical care setting. This could be an acute medical or surgical ward. Successful candidates will be eligible to commence one of two university accredited A+E courses. Both of which are run within the ED and both have two occurrences a year.
The Royal Free Emergency Department sees over 100,000 patients a year, we have an integrated Paediatric Emergency Department and an Urgent Care Centre. In addition to this we have a consultant led care of the elderly team who assess older patients for appropriate admission or organise enhanced social care support in the community. The Urgent Care Centre within the Emergency Department has ENPs working with the GPs to deliver an efficient and responsive service. The Royal Free Hospital has an active research programme with a number of nursing staff within the department undertaking research projects.
Successful candidates will undertake the:
• Royal Free London NHS Trust “ Foundations of Emergency nursing” which is fully accredited with Middlesex University (15 credits at Level 6)

This is a busy department seeing the full range of emergency care patients, and is also a level one trauma unit.
