Edinburgh College is recruiting a Curriculum Portfolio Manager – Data-Driven Innovation (DDI) Skills Gateway. The role will work with colleagues across the Colleges in the city region (Borders, Fife, Edinburgh, West Lothian). The role will report to the College City Region Deal Skills Group with day to day line management from the Head of Curriculum Planning and Performance.

This is a unique opportunity to manage the delivery of an innovative project, which aims to contribute to a strategic approach to increasing the data skills of the population of the Edinburgh and South East Scotland city region, helping the Colleges strengthen their regional economic role and oversee a multi-agency delivery project.

The role of the Curriculum Manager – Data-Driven Innovation Skills Gateway will be to establish processes and develop and deliver this ambitious and ground-breaking skills project, nurturing the Data Workers and Citizens of the future. You will be working with colleagues across the Colleges in the city region (Borders, Fife Edinburgh, West Lothian) to monitor output and ensure that financial resources are appropriately deployed.

The Prime Minister and First Minister announced the Edinburgh and South-East Scotland City Region Deal on 7th August 2018. Few other City Region Deals in the UK have involved such a prominent role for a College. Innovation and Skills are key components of the deal. The Data-Driven Innovation Skills Gateway reflects an inclusive growth ambition, seeking to make the region the leader for developing data literacy skills across its population. Working in partnership with the city region Local Authorities, Colleges, other HE institutions, The Data Lab and third sector organisations.

The inclusion of Data-Driven Innovation with the City Region Deal reflects the growing importance of data in economic growth, social change, and public services. Through high-speed data analytics, our ability to capture flows of data and understand what they tell us is bringing better and faster capability to identify trends and behaviour across many sectors leading to improved services for consumers and citizens.

You will govern and ensure that all content is clear, engaging and fit for purpose. You will also be responsible for creating and maintaining content templates/frameworks through various channels that can be leveraged for repeatable use cases driving a consistent standard across the team.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Scope, design and develop instructor-led and digital content that is both engaging and informative
- Design and develop creative assets (playbooks, wireframes, graphics, motion graphics, videos, etc.)
- Utilize multimedia software (such as Adobe Creative Suite) and eLearning authoring tools (such as Evolve Authoring)
- Manage timelines and deliverables for projects ensuring on-time delivery of program assets

You will work with the other officers in Education Scotland with responsibilities for Gaelic and the curriculum and engage with the GME sector to ascertain needs to augment with inspection evidence. This can then be fed back to inform Education Scotland support and development planning and also to resource producing partners such as Stòrlann. Specific Duties

 Support leaders of improvement and change within schools to challenge features of curriculum design to enable an increased proportion of the curriculum to be delivered in Gaelic, GME and GLE.  Take forward improvements from inspection – supporting schools to implement Education Scotland’s Advice on Gaelic Education.

 Build capacity in the secondary Gaelic Medium Education sector through working with schools/senior leaders in adopting the curriculum approaches outlined in the Advice on Gaelic Education.

 Lead moderation activities for the secondary GME stages across Scotland, to build capacity in assessing progress and achievement.

 Work in collaboration with Education Scotland colleagues and e-Sgoil to support teachers to maximise engagement in Gaelic.

 Use Education Scotland’s online services, communication strategies and social media to promote career pathways to young people with skills in Gaelic, working with key partners.  Work with senior Education Scotland colleagues to develop collaborative networks across Education Scotland’s Professional Learning Community.

 Provide quality support to schools across Scotland on using Gaelic to embed the 1+2 approach to language learning successfully. Essential Criteria You will be asked to provide evidence of how you meet these criteria in your application.

1. GTCS registration in teaching secondary Gaelic, or a subject through the medium of Gaelic with leadership experience of GME within a faculty or school and a sound understanding of GME curriculum design.

2. Leadership and management experience of working with a range of stakeholders, providing up-to-date relevant information of key educational developments and supporting improvements.

3. Excellent verbal and written communication skills in Gaelic.

4. Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work well independently and in teams with the ability to operate with impartiality, fairness and diplomacy and maintain confidentiality.

This is an exciting opportunity to lead the Languages provision at Birmingham Adult Education Service, one the largest language providers in the country. We are seeking a highly motivated individual with the ability and a proven, successful track record of partnerships and business development.

You will have a lead role in ensuring that the high quality of the provision is maintained. As the leader for languages you will work closely with the Head of Curriculum and Quality on consolidating the purpose of the provision and strengthening the offer of languages to members of the public and employers, including funded and non-funded courses online and in the classroom.  You will also have experience establishing external and internal partnerships, which are essential to achieve the provision's strategic objectives. You will lead, manage and supervise the duties of a team of Teaching and Learning Managers, Subject Leaders and Tutors. 

Travel between centres is required and travelling expenses can be claimed according to the BCC approved mileage scheme.

You will hold a Level 5 teaching qualification, a subject specialist qualification (Level 4 as a minimum) and/or near native competence in a Modern Foreign Language, as well as English Level 2 and maths Level 2 qualifications. The successful applicant will have a high level understanding of the curriculum area. Candidates who do not hold a Level 5 teaching qualification upon appointment will be required to gain it within two years as a condition of employment.

You should have excellent interpersonal, organisational and management skills, a commitment to driving up quality and evidence of flexibility, as occasional evening and Saturday work is required. Close team work with Curriculum Leaders in other curriculum areas will be critical.

Edinburgh College is recruiting a Curriculum Portfolio Manager – Data-Driven Innovation (DDI) Skills Gateway. The role will work with colleagues across the Colleges in the city region (Borders, Fife, Edinburgh, West Lothian). The role will report to the College City Region Deal Skills Group with day to day line management from the Head of Curriculum Planning and Performance.

This is a unique opportunity to manage the delivery of an innovative project, which aims to contribute to a strategic approach to increasing the data skills of the population of the Edinburgh and South East Scotland city region, helping the Colleges strengthen their regional economic role and oversee a multi-agency delivery project.

The role of the Curriculum Manager – Data-Driven Innovation Skills Gateway will be to establish processes and develop and deliver this ambitious and ground-breaking skills project, nurturing the Data Workers and Citizens of the future. You will be working with colleagues across the Colleges in the city region (Borders, Fife Edinburgh, West Lothian) to monitor output and ensure that financial resources are appropriately deployed.

The Prime Minister and First Minister announced the Edinburgh and South-East Scotland City Region Deal on 7th August 2018. Few other City Region Deals in the UK have involved such a prominent role for a College. Innovation and Skills are key components of the deal. The Data-Driven Innovation Skills Gateway reflects an inclusive growth ambition, seeking to make the region the leader for developing data literacy skills across its population. Working in partnership with the city region Local Authorities, Colleges, other HE institutions, The Data Lab and third sector organisations.

What is data-driven innovation?

The inclusion of Data-Driven Innovation with the City Region Deal reflects the growing importance of data in economic growth, social change, and public services. Through high-speed data analytics, our ability to capture flows of data and understand what they tell us is bringing better and faster capability to identify trends and behaviour across many sectors leading to improved services for consumers and citizens.

What you can offer us:

•                   Educated to degree or equivalent plus extensive experience;

•                   Experience of curriculum design and delivery of wide-reaching project plans;

•                   Experience of working collaboratively to deliver projects, ensuring cross-partner buy-in and ongoing engagement;

•                   Experience in financial reporting and budget management of spend with support of College departments

•                   Excellent communicator, using a range of communication channels and materials.

•                   Strong interpersonal and presentation skills and ability to engage with people

at all levels within multiple organisations;

•                   Project Management skills and / or business development experience
