NHS England and NHS Improvement
Location:

Salary:
£38,890 - £44,503 per annum

Our Organisation

NHS England and NHS Improvement came together on 1 April 2019 as a new single organisation. The NHS Long Term Plan focuses on delivering integrated care to patients at the local level and we can best support the NHS to deliver this as a single integrated organisation.

At the NHS, we are reminded every day of how important life is. As a flexible working friendly organisation, we want to be sure that you can work in a way that is best for us and for our patients, and for you. In addition, although the role advertised may have an ‘home’ office base indicated, we remain committed to supporting flexibility around workplace locations. If it works for the service, we will do our best to make it work for you.

Our new operating model represents a strong shift to regional delivery supported by expert corporate teams. Local health systems are supported by our integrated regional teams who play a major leadership role in the geographies they manage.

We are jointly committed to creating and maintaining a fair and supportive working environment and culture, where contributions are fully recognised and valued by all and staff feel empowered to carry out their duties to the best of their abilities. Southern Health is one of the largest Foundation Trusts in the UK, specialising in mental health, adult and child community health and learning disabilities.

We are looking to recruit an enthusiastic Art Psychotherapist to work within a relatively new 14-bedded low secure inpatient unit for adolescents, which is part of the Specialist Services directorate of Southern Health NHS Foundation Trust. This post provides an exciting opportunity to contribute to the development of a comprehensive and high-quality service for young people aged 12-18 years experiencing a range of complex presenting problems. Austen House sits alongside well-established medium secure and general adolescent units at Bluebird and Leigh House, respectively. The role will involve flexible working across sites to provide a creative therapies service that is offered within the unit or on an outreach basis, according to clinical need.

This post offers close multi-agency and multi-disciplinary working within a team comprising of Psychology, Family Therapy, Creative Therapy, Occupational Therapy, Consultant Child and Adolescent Psychiatry, Social Work and Nursing. The role will involve the use of specialist assessment and intervention skills to provide a creative therapies service to young people and their caregivers. In addition to the delivery of individual and group therapeutic work, the role will involve the promotion of a psychologically-informed environment. There will also be opportunities to consult and promote models of care informed by a recovery-based ethos, as well as attachment theory and developmental perspectives.

An active engagement with activities of continuing professional development and research to support audit, policy and service development is also encouraged.

Austen House is based on the edge of the New Forest in a tranquil rural setting but within a few miles of the city of Southampton, which provides excellent transport links.

Please be aware that Ravenswood House, which is a medium secure inpatient unit for adult males within the Specialist Services directorate of Southern Health NHS Foundation Trust, is also currently recruiting a Creative Therapist for 15 hours per week. If you would like to apply for both roles, then please indicate this within the application form.

Informal enquiries are welcomed. Please contact Jennie Downie (Art Therapist) via jenny.downie@southernhealth.nhs.uk or Dr Jemma Reynolds (Principal Clinical Psychologist) via jemmareynolds@nhs.net for more information.
