North Middlesex University Hospital is one of London’s busiest acute hospitals, serving more than 350,000 people living in Enfield and Haringey and the surrounding areas, including Barnet and Waltham Forest.
We are an integrated provider with a full range of adult, elderly and children's services across medical and surgical disciplines including community 0-19 yr old services in Enfield. Advert- Consultant Gastroenterologist
Applications are invited for a Consultant post in Gastroenterology and advanced endoscopy at the North Middlesex University Hospital NHS Trust.
The post is for 10 programmed activities however part time applications or job shares will also be considered. The successful applicant will join our close-knit team of seven substantive consultants delivering diagnostic and therapeutic upper and lower GI endoscopy, ERCP and screening procedures as well as inpatient care to our dedicated gastroenterology and general medical ward supervising our excellent team of junior doctors. The postholder will also provide an equal share of our out-of-hours GI bleeding rota including evening and weekend lists (1 week in 8). There will also be a commitment to outpatients with 2 clinics and 1 virtual clinic per week.
We are obviously looking for a highly skilled gastroenterologist and endoscopist but also, and most importantly, someone who will bring new ideas and perspectives to our team and help grow and develop our service. An enthusiastic approach to the training of our gastroenterology registrars and upper and lower GI nurse endoscopists will also be important.
The North Middlesex is a University Hospital dedicated to postgraduate teaching and training as well as undergraduate teaching of both local and international medical students.
Candidates must be registered with the GMC and hold a CCT in GIM or appropriate specialty. SpRs within six months of accreditation on the date of the interview are also welcome to apply.

West Hertfordshire Hospitals NHS Trust provides acute healthcare services to a core catchment population of approximately half a million people living in west Hertfordshire and the surrounding area.
We offer a range of more specialist services to a wider population, serving residents of North London, Bedfordshire, Buckinghamshire and East Hertfordshire.
It has three hospitals (Watford General, St Albans City Hospital and Hemel Hempstead Hospital). The trust also manages an outpatient physiotherapy unit at Abbotts Langley. The Watford site is by far the biggest and is the focus for the trusts emergency and specialised care. The trust provides a range of more specialist services to a wider population, serving residents of north London, Bedfordshire, Buckinghamshire and east Hertfordshire.
The Stroke service at Watford hospital provides thrombolysis 24 hours, seven days a week in conjunction with East of England Telemedicine Service (out of hours). The thrombolysis service within normal working hours is provided by the local Stroke Consultant team.
The out of hours telemedicine service is a regional service supported by 11 Stroke Consultants and covers 7 Hospitals within the East of England.
The post holder will be expected to contribute to the Thrombolysis rota within normal working hours. There is an expectation that the local out of hours on call thrombolysis service will eventually be provided by the Watford Stroke Consultant team.
We have facility for multi modal imaging with CT angiography and CT perfusion. There is an established pathway that involves rapid assessment in A&E by Stroke Clinical Nurse Specialists who review patients triaged by the ambulance service or the A&E team. There are excellent working relationships with the ambulance service, the ED department and radiology.
We have a close working relationship with Charing Cross Hospital who provide a 24/7 thrombectomy service.
We provide daily TIA clinics and regular Stroke follow-up clinics. The successful applicant will be expected to take part in the provision of a 7 day service as part of a weekend rota i.e. a 3 hour session on a Saturday or a Sunday. The consultant is not expected to be present on site outside of these sessions.
