Public Sector City Jobs Overview

City Jobs in the public sector are incredibly diverse, with many part-time and full-time opportunities available. The public sector is made up of a range of organisations controlled, owned or funded by the government. Those who work in this sector include firefighters, police officers and teachers.

Organisations in the public sector are broken down in to central and local government. Cities such as London, Manchester and Edinburgh require a range of positions in the public sector in both areas of government. At the local level, jobs such as social work are available, while central government employs civil servants and politicians.

Public Sector City Jobs Education Requirements

Skill and education requirements for city jobs in the public sector often mirror those for equivalent positions in the private sector, such as staff nurse jobs. In general, proficiencies in management and leadership are required, as well as good customer service and communication skills.

The educational requirements will depend on the type of position. For instance, business development manager jobs will often require a degree in business management or marketing. Generally, public sector organisations will look for graduates to fill entry-level positions in administration or assistant work.
