CIMA Jobs Overview

One of the leading governing professional bodies, CIMA (The Chartered Institute of Management Accountants) specialises in business management accounting. Instead of working in public practice, the members work for one company or large organisation where their tasks include analysing financial data, estimating future costs and revenues to create budgets and preparing internal reports. They also assist with making strategic financial decisions and business planning. Other duties involve:

  • Recommending ways to cut costs and increase profits
  • Internal auditing and assisting external auditors
  • Managing finance clerks and accounting technicians
  • Overseeing credit control, bookkeeping and payroll functions

CIMA Jobs Education Requirements

CIMA certification commences with an entry-level certificate, comprising five exams. At this stage, no fixed qualifications are required, though a good standard of Maths and English is necessary. The subsequent professional qualification consists of ten examinations; enrolment is via the CIMA certificate or a relevant accountancy or business-related degree. Additionally, AAT (Association of Accounting Technicians) or other professional accounting qualifications may enable some exam exemptions. Trainee accountants studying towards CIMA qualifications who are looking for a role change or greater responsibility may wish to search for assistant management accountant jobs.
