This role will be based at Rutland Care Village, in the heart of Oakham in Leicestershire. The Care Village has been specially designed to cater to the every need of 82 residents, across four buildings on the site. Additionally, many of our residents are living with Dementia and may also require one to one personal support to maintain their daily independence. Responsibilities of our Night Care Assistant include:

- Encouraging residents to mobilise safely around the home, with the support of mobility aids and specialist equipment

- Welcoming family members to the home and assisting with enquiries

To be successful within this role, you will have a genuine caring nature and a desire to make a real difference for our residents. Though prior experience as a Care Assistant or Support worker is desirable, this is not essential as full training is provided. Job description

At Turning Point, we support people with Learning Disabilities across England.

As a Support Worker, you will make a real difference to residents' lives as you improve their daily living skills. Passionate about people, you will enjoy the scope and support to enhance your own life and career too, as you gain the experience and training you need to progress with us.

Where will I be working?

We offer 24 hour supported living facilities in providing care for adults with Learning Disabilities. We support 18 individuals across Peterborough and two people in a village just outside Peterborough in Whittlesey.

People we support are all with Learning Disabilities, Autism, complex needs, health needs and physical disabilities. We also have those with dual diagnosis so they have a learning disability with a mental health diagnosis. Support is 24 hrs and you will be dedicated to one home as part of a team.

We endeavour to create positive family relationships offering a good circle of support. There is a strong focus on supporting individuals' lives in a person centred way which includes various activities, shopping, managing own budgets and cooking. We tailor our services to enable people to be as independent as possible.

What will I be doing?

This is a hands-on job in which no two days are the same. Your duties will include:

  • promoting the independence of people we support
  • supporting a full range of daily activities including cleaning and cooking, days out or going away on holiday
  • arranging activities in the home and in the local community
  • developing residents' life skills and personal interests
  • helping residents stay safe and healthy
  • assisting with personal care needs
  • manual handling
  • supporting people with medication
  • ensuring record keeping is maintained to the required standard at all times and contributing to service monitoring requirements.

What skills and qualities do I need to have?

Whilst knowledge of learning disabilities and complex needs would be beneficial, it isn't essential. What is essential is that you are:

  • passionate, caring and enthusiastic
  • flexible, patient and non-judgemental
  • a great team player with lots of energy
  • able to demonstrate good communication skills
  • able to complete the physical aspects of the role such as manual handling where needed
  • transferable experience of helping people to manage anxiety

Shift Patterns

This is a 24 hour service, therefore flexibility is essential. You will be working a range of shifts from 7:00/8:00 am to 2:00/3:00 pm and 2:00/3:00 pm to 9:00/10:00 pm, sleep ins or waking nights, some weekends.

Please note that working hours may vary from service to service.

    Experience is essential, we train all our staffto deliver the level of service known and expected at a ‘Gold Care’ home. As a senior carer, we would expect you to have a NVQ3 Health and Social care qualification (or equivalent) with excellent knowledge of emergency response and first aid (CPR).

      All of our staff are offered the opportunity to progress, which is why we encourage, develop and train our staff to reach their potential. In fact, the majority of our senior staff/Care Managers all started life at Gold Care Homes as a carer.

      Duties and Responsibilities

      • Ensure the highest possible levels of care are maintained by supporting / assisting Clients, when required, with all aspects of daily living.
      • Support training and supervision of junior and new Staff Members in all aspects of their work in the Home, under the supervision of senior Staff Members.
      • Assist Clients in all aspects of their care needs (e.g. physical, emotional and spiritual). Provide supervision and attention when needed, ensuring Clients retain their comfort and dignity.
      • Pay particular attention to assisting Clients who have limited mobility, or physical / learning difficulties making the best use of aids provided.
      • Assist in the promotion of Continence.
      • Assist in the delivery of care for Clients who are dying or who have a progressive illness.
      • Complete, observe and review care planning needs for Clients, and complete written daily records as instructed and in line with the Company’s policies and procedures.
      • Assist in framework of social activities by interacting with Clients and helping them continue with hobbies and activities in the Home.
      • Answer Nurse Call system, giving assistance as required. Answer the door and telephone appropriately. Respond accordingly, and pass on messages promptly.
      • Report on well-being of Clients and liaise with GPs and Support Managers etc.
      • Carry out regular checks on Clients at intervals determined by senior Staff Members.
      • Make and change beds, ensuring that rooms are clean and tidy, and commodes are empty. Ensure the Home’s resources are used appropriately.
      • Clean and maintain equipment used by Clients / Relatives e.g. wheelchairs, hearing aids, spectacles etc. Ensure the Home is kept clean and tidy, in line with the Company’s attention to detail philosophy.
      • If applicable, care for Clients’ clothing and rooms as named, and ensure that all clothing is recorded and clearly marked.
      • Ensure full privacy and dignity is maintained for the dying and the bereaved, in line with the Company’s policies and procedures.
      • Assist Clients who need help during meal times (be aware of swallowing difficulties, dietary requirements etc.). Assist with serving of food / drinks as requested / required.
      • Escort Clients travelling to and from the Home e.g. on social outings, hospital visits etc.
      • Practice maximum integrity in all dealings with Clients' affairs, and avoid abuse of the privileged relationship that exists with Clients.
      • Deliver a high level of personal and psychological care to all residents in a professional manner, arranging rotas to meet their care requirements eg medications; toileting; bathing; etc.
      • Complete records where required to a satisfactory standard. Ensuring the changeover and Keyworker documentation are fully completed within the timeframes agreed.
      • Supervise, support and act as a point of reference for the staff on duty, acting as a motivator and mentor promoting team-working for both care staff and co-worker senior staff.
      • Act as an ambassador for the Home in all dealings with visitors and the general public, who call at the home for whatever reason by displaying impeccable professional behaviour and leading by example.
      • Ensure the individual rights of residents and staff are safeguarded in accordance with the Home’s philosophy of care and in the wider care sector by being aware of the working practices and activities being actioned.
      • Provide an efficient telephone and enquiry service to the general public and relatives, by listening to what is required and when necessary seeking the answers and calling the person back.

As a senior carer, we would expect you to have a NVQ3 Health and Social care qualification (or equivalent) with excellent knowledge of emergency response and first aid (CPR).

          Duties and Responsibilities

          • Ensure the highest possible levels of care are maintained by supporting / assisting Clients, when required, with all aspects of daily living.
          • Support training and supervision of junior and new Staff Members in all aspects of their work in the Home, under the supervision of senior Staff Members.
          • Assist Clients in all aspects of their care needs (e.g. physical, emotional and spiritual). Provide supervision and attention when needed, ensuring Clients retain their comfort and dignity.
          • Pay particular attention to assisting Clients who have limited mobility, or physical / learning difficulties making the best use of aids provided.
          • Assist in the promotion of Continence.
          • Assist in the delivery of care for Clients who are dying or who have a progressive illness.
          • Complete, observe and review care planning needs for Clients, and complete written daily records as instructed and in line with the Company’s policies and procedures.
          • Assist in framework of social activities by interacting with Clients and helping them continue with hobbies and activities in the Home.
          • Answer Nurse Call system, giving assistance as required. Answer the door and telephone appropriately. Respond accordingly, and pass on messages promptly.
          • Report on well-being of Clients and liaise with GPs and Support Managers etc.
          • Carry out regular checks on Clients at intervals determined by senior Staff Members.
          • Make and change beds, ensuring that rooms are clean and tidy, and commodes are empty. Ensure the Home’s resources are used appropriately.
          • Clean and maintain equipment used by Clients / Relatives e.g. wheelchairs, hearing aids, spectacles etc. Ensure the Home is kept clean and tidy, in line with the Company’s attention to detail philosophy.
          • If applicable, care for Clients’ clothing and rooms as named, and ensure that all clothing is recorded and clearly marked.
          • Ensure full privacy and dignity is maintained for the dying and the bereaved, in line with the Company’s policies and procedures.
          • Assist Clients who need help during meal times (be aware of swallowing difficulties, dietary requirements etc.). Assist with serving of food / drinks as requested / required.
          • Escort Clients travelling to and from the Home e.g. on social outings, hospital visits etc.
          • Practice maximum integrity in all dealings with Clients' affairs, and avoid abuse of the privileged relationship that exists with Clients.
          • Deliver a high level of personal and psychological care to all residents in a professional manner, arranging rotas to meet their care requirements eg medications; toileting; bathing; etc.
          • Complete records where required to a satisfactory standard. Ensuring the changeover and Keyworker documentation are fully completed within the timeframes agreed.
          • Supervise, support and act as a point of reference for the staff on duty, acting as a motivator and mentor promoting team-working for both care staff and co-worker senior staff.
          • Act as an ambassador for the Home in all dealings with visitors and the general public, who call at the home for whatever reason by displaying impeccable professional behaviour and leading by example.
          • Ensure the individual rights of residents and staff are safeguarded in accordance with the Home’s philosophy of care and in the wider care sector by being aware of the working practices and activities being actioned.
          • Provide an efficient telephone and enquiry service to the general public and relatives, by listening to what is required and when necessary seeking the answers and calling the person back.
