A 'C' grade at GCSE English and Maths may be expected by some employers, but experience in sales, self-confidence, and knowledge of cars is generally given greater precedent. Trainee roles are a good gateway into this line of work. The ability to 'close a sale', as it is known in the car sales industry, is the most pivotal aspect of all.

The car sales market is currently enjoying a boom in the United Kingdom. According to the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT), nearly 2.5 million new cars were sold in the UK during 2014, which is up 9.3% on 2013, and the highest total in a decade. This places the British car market second in Europe, and shows a high, increasing demand for cars in this country. Therefore, the car sales jobs market is also expected to increase in the next few years.
Car Sales Jobs Salary Information
Because it is a sales industry, staff have to work towards targets and can earn through commission, also known as on-target earnings (OTE). Starting salary is, on average, £12,000, but that figure can be doubled through OTE. Staff with greater experience can earn a base salary of £17,000, with OTE rising to £40,000.
