Cabling Engineer - Copper & Fibre - CAT6A - OM3 - OM4 - Singlemode - Data Centre Experience

The candidate will have experience as a Copper and Fibre cabling engineer to work predominantly in Southern client sites carrying out the Installation, termination and testing of copper CAT6A and pre-terminated fibre optic cabling systems.

Work on other nationwide sites will be at times required and work will predominantly be carried out at night.

You will be involved in;

• Installation, termination and testing of copper CAT6A systems
• Installation of fibre optic cabling (fusion splicing experience an advantage)
• Installation and testing of pre-terminated fibre optic cabling (OM3, OM4 and singlemode)
• Extensive use of fluke versiv test equipment
• Provide cover for moves and changes team
• Installation and connectivity of network equipment
• General Installation works on Branches and Campus
• Attending to structured cabling faults on sites
• This work may be UK wide

• Meeting client SLA's
• Ensuring all connectivity is provided to correct locations
• Client satisfaction of works carried out.
• Successful communication with client (and clients customers)
• No issues due to incorrect cabling being removed.

• Experience of data centre environment ESSENTIAL
• Experience of structured cabling systems (manufacture accreditations advantageous)
• Network equipment connectivity and installation experience
• Knowledge of different data centre platforms (I Series, Z-Series, SAN amongst others)
• PC literate - use of Microsoft office software)
• Health and Safety awareness (ECS, SSSTS or IOSH certification advantageous).
• Understanding of the security required in a data centre

• Execute regional space & power, cabling and other infrastructure requirements in support of edge network requirements, present and future.
• Work with Engineers and design and draw layout of edge/pop sites floor plans, allocate space assigned to network function, optical, backbone, IP, compute, etc.
• Execute all SOW Engineering design packages related to new or existing edge/pop sites as per ENS standards.
• Proactively contribute to documentation, automation and processes as they evolve.
• Understand the overall needs of current and future POP infrastructure.
• Guide retrospective reviews of completed projects with teams to incorporate lessons learned into the team's future roadmaps & goals.
• Ensure processes are being followed and all documentation and systems are delivered as per set standards.
• Involved in site acceptance process for new POP sites.
• Travel to site across states for site survey and evaluation as per need basis.

• Outstanding proficiency with AutoCAD/AutoDesk tools.
• Knowledge of engineering principles of the infrastructure architecture (space line up, air flow, cooling etc.)
• Knowledge of Telecom Central Offices, Data Center, Collocations and Remote Hut environments, to include engineering principles regarding power and other infrastructure.
• Understanding of optical network design, installation and maintenance for service providers or enterprise networks.
• Experience with field-based work in POPs, carrier hotels, data centers and Central Office environments.
• Technical knowledge of various regional Data Center electrical and cooling configurations, IEC, NEMA standards, AC/DC power, power redundancy scenarios.
• Basic knowledge of optical theory, transport technologies and the operation of optical transport systems.
• Analytical, interpersonal, and communications experience.
• Experience with communication and directing tasks to vendors/suppliers.
• Demonstrated experience analyzing situations and utilizing troubleshooting experience, systems and tools, and problem solving. Hands on experience on Power related projects is a plus.
• Experience working with limited supervision.
• Time management and organizational experience.
• Experience working in a global team environment.
• Willing to travel, approximately 10 to 30% travel required.

• Knowledge of Telecom Central Offices, Data Center, Collocations and Remote Hut environments, to include engineering principles regarding power and other infrastructure.
• Experience with communication and directing tasks to vendors/suppliers.
• Outstanding proficiency with AutoCAD/AutoDesk tools.

• Bachelors in Electrical/Electronics Engineering or Equivalent is preferred.
