Training and Skills to Become a Cabin Crew Member

There are three avenues you could take to join a professional cabin crew:

  • attend an appropriate college course
  • pursue an apprenticeship within an airline
  • apply directly to cabin crew vacancies on Monster

If you choose the college route, you should consider a course such as the Level 2 Certificate or Diploma in Air Cabin Crew. Alternatively, you can study the cabin crew module under a wider travel and tourism qualification.

To take on an apprenticeship, you’ll usually be required to have the equivalent of 5 GCSEs including English and maths with grades 9 to 4 (A* to C). For direct applications, you won’t necessarily need any formal training, but many airlines offer their own short training courses or pre-application quizzes so you can find out if this job would be the right fit for you.

Employers will also be interested in your skill set and will be looking for things like customer service experience, exceptional communication skills, proficient teamwork, and the ability to work well under pressure.
