The post holder will have responsibility for overseeing the provision of clinical supervision within the team and will provide line management for other members of the psychological therapies team which consists of a clinical psychologist, a senior CAT therapist and an assistant psychologist. Other professionals with the team have also recently commenced the British Isles DBT training and we would like the successful applicant to support them in the delivery of DBT interventions to Service users.
The post will be supported by a Consultant Clinical Psychologist with established arrangements for supervision. In addition to this there are regular psychology meetings and internal CPD events. An opportunity has arisen to appoint to appoint a Consultant Psychiatrist of 10 PAs specialising in general adult psychiatry in the East of Suffolk. The post is based in our CRHT team at Woodlands unit, Ipswich Hospital.
You will be working with a team of enthusiastic and committed multi-disciplinary colleagues including Nursing, Psychology, Social work, Occupational Therapy, CBT Therapists, Speech and Assistant Practitioners.
CRHT work very closely with our 2 acute inpatients ward, PICU and our Integrated Delivery Teams. Our Integrated Delivery Teams are made up of community teams for Adult, Youth, Later Life, and Learning Disability along with other specialist services such as Eating Disorder, Early Intervention and Childrens mental health. They are based in three locations in the East locality, serving the populations of Ipswich, Coastal and Central Suffolk.

We are looking to appoint an HCPC registered Clinical Psychologist who has significant experience of working with Older People and confidence in making a differential diagnosis of dementia, as well as having the warmth, compassion and vitality to match our lovely team. We are keen to appoint applicants who bring a diversity of life experiences to our teams.
You will be joining a very warm, positive and psychologically-minded team who are strong in their own professions, able to reflect on their clinical practice and contribute to formulations. The team are used to hosting Trainee Clinical Psychologists , as well as other students, and you will have the opportunity to continue to provide clinical placements for the University of East Anglia (UEA). The feedback from our Trainees is that the team is fun, welcoming and nurturing. We also have strong links with UEA in lecturing and research.
You will have a number of roles including providing direct clinical work with our patients; assessing, formulating and guiding the intervention allocation, offering therapy for complex mental health conditions, to the person themselves as well as providing support to families in distress, providing consultation to the Community Mental Health team. Additionally you will provide neuropsychological assessments, post-diagnostic support and time-limited neurorehabilitation to our separate Memory Assessment and Therapy service.
The remit for Older Peoples mental health work is wonderfully diverse allowing for almost any Project work to be supported where there is a need demonstrated by our service users. We benefit from our thriving co-production and see this as integral to the way in which we develop and deliver our services. We also have monthly Forums and monthly CPD open to all of our OP clinical staff, as well as strong links with all of the OP services across the Trust.
Our OP services have been rated by CQC as Good, and our management are keen to support OP services; having recently appointed an OP services lead for West Suffolk.
We have a small but yearly publications record, and are keen to support an applicant in their research and publications. There are opportunities for involvement in home-grown NSFT research projects eg https://www.uea.ac.uk/news/-/article/2-million-project-to-support-uk-dementia-carers a £2 million NIHR-funded research project with those with dementia and their families, collaborating with the University of East Anglia and the University of Maastricht. Our Research Development team supports clinicians in building a personal research profile and have the infrastructure available, eg, to support bid-writing, service evaluation, applying for fellowships. We also have opportunities for involvement in other national and international clinical research projects, including therapy trials, supported by the Research Delivery team.
This kind of post is relatively rare; in which you will be able to maintain a high level of therapeutic skill and a high level of neuropsychological diagnostic work, and has only become available due to promotion.
The future of our services for Older People in West Suffolk is changing in line with the national Transformation model and there will be significant opportunity to contribute to, and influence the development of this offer from the very beginning, and lead on appropriate projects.
The right applicant will have a fantastic opportunity to join a very strong specialism with colleagues who are dedicated to the care and advocacy of Older People.
