Windsor Overview

Windsor, in Berkshire, is set on the river Thames and borders Eton. It is famous for Windsor Castle, official residence of the Queen, and its historic town centre. Windsor is roughly twenty miles west of London, just outside the M25 motorway. The M4 runs to the north of Windsor, and the M25 and M3 are easily reached. Heathrow Airport is a twenty minute drive. There are good road links with nearby towns, and bus routes serving Slough, Heathrow, and central London, as well as trains to Slough and Waterloo.

Central Windsor is a desirable address, with many luxury homes. More affordable property can be found in suburban areas, such as Dedworth. Windsor is fairly compact, and it is easy to reach the centre from the outlying suburbs.

Windsor Job Opportunities

Tourism accounts for a large part of Windsor's economy. Nearby Legoland Windsor is one of the UK's most popular days out. Windsor Castle, Windsor Great Park, Eton, and the river also attract large numbers of visitors. Jobs in Windsor relating to tourism include retail, catering, and customer service jobs, as well as specialist roles for qualified historians.
Outside the centre, small, medium and large businesses offer sales jobs, and IT jobs and other clerical and skilled jobs in Windsor. There are also job opportunities in surrounding towns, such as Slough, Maidenhead, and Staines.

Windsor Employment Trends

Compared with the south east as a whole, the Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead has low unemployment and high qualification levels in the workforce. Both salaries and hourly rates are higher than the national and south east averages according to the Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead. It is likely that Windsor will continue to thrive and offer plentiful employment opportunities. New development Windsor Business Quarter should bring more skilled, office, and logistics jobs to the area.
