Ringwood Overview

Ringwood, in Hampshire, is a gateway to the New Forest, one of southern England's most popular holiday destinations. A picturesque market town, Ringwood also has modern facilities, including a shopping centre and leisure centre. The town's weekly market has been taking place since the Middle Ages.

Ringwood is a desirable place to live, and housing prices are high. Residents of Ringwood tend to be well off, with high levels of employment and education, and the population is slightly older than the national average. The town lies just off the A31, the main route into Dorset from the east, and is close to the M27 motorway for Southampton and Portsmouth, and the M3 for Winchester and London.

Ringwood Job Opportunities

Many of the work opportunities in Ringwood are centred around tourism, meaning restaurant jobs, customer service jobs and part-time jobs are abundant. As well as the hotels and facilities providing jobs, in Ringwood itself and other towns nearby, such as Burley and Fordingbridge, there are plenty of tourist attractions in the New Forest, including outdoor sports and nature reserves. The historic Ringwood Brewery offers opportunities in the brewing trade, while the town centre's shops, pubs and restaurants provide retail and catering positions. Some Ringwood residents commute to Salisbury, Winchester, Bournemouth, or further afield, preferring to live close to the countryside and work in a larger town.

Ringwood Employment Trends

More Britons are choosing to holiday at home, and visitors from Europe and abroad are on the rise, creating a boom in UK tourism which is likely to boost employment opportunities in Ringwood. As businesses move away from town centres, New Forest sites for office work and light industry have been created. For these jobs Ringwood makes an excellent base. A new business park at Bournemouth Airport, a few miles to the south, will provide increased opportunities for both office and industrial work.
