House prices and rents are low for the area, and an above-average number of residents own their homes. The population of March is relatively old when compared with the Fenlands, as a whole. The town has its own railway station, linking it to Ely and Peterborough. It's also close to the A1(M) and the M11 motorways.

March Job Opportunities

Although some residents of March commute to Peterborough or Cambridge for work, there are plenty of options for jobs in March. Whitemoor Prison, just outside the town, is an important local employer, offering March jobs in security and catering. The local bars and restaurants round up the offering for those interested in working in hospitality with year-round bar staff jobs. Support worker jobs are abundant, as are manufacturing jobs. Out-of-town factories, mostly supplying the food industry, require operatives, management and administrative staff, and delivery drivers. Two major supermarket chains and an out-of-town retail park provide a variety of opportunities, including sales, administrative, and cleaning positions. Jobs in March can also be found in the town's shops and small family-owned businesses.

March Employment Trends

Over the next few years, it is likely that March will expand, with new homes being built. As more young families move in, the town will see a need to increase educational and recreational facilities. Retail and business parks outside the town are also likely to increase in size. New ones may also be built, as more businesses move away from urban areas. There is already a wind farm close to March, since the Fenlands countryside is very suitable for harvesting wind power. As the need for alternative energy sources grows, constructing and running wind farms may become an important part of the local economy, and a good source of March jobs in the environmental industry.
