Greenwich Overview

Greenwich is a historic area of south London, situated on the Thames. The green space of Greenwich Park is at its heart, and the Greenwich Meridian runs through it. There are good road and rail links to central London, as well as to destinations in south London and Kent. Greenwich has two overground and two Docklands Light Railway stations, and is close to the A2, the Blackwall Tunnel, and the South Circular. Housing tends to be expensive, but there are cheaper areas for living, such as Woolwich and Charlton, close by.

Greenwich Job Opportunities

Greenwich is a popular destination for visitors to London, so there is a wide range of full and part time Greenwich jobs catering to the tourist trade, for example in restaurants, cafes and bars, in shops, or at museums and other attractions, like the National Maritime Museum and the Royal Observatory. Museums also require curators, researchers, and other roles.

With a hospital nearby and a charity offering sheltered accommodation to former members of the Royal Navy, there are jobs to be had in the healthcare sector. Employers in education include the university, colleges, and several schools. Greenwich Council offers a variety of roles, including clerical and administrative jobs, and the Royal Parks may offer some outdoor roles in Greenwich Park, including apprenticeships.

Greenwich Employment Trends

Small, independent shops and businesses thrive in Greenwich, from market stalls to microbreweries, and this trend is likely to continue. A busy property market means that there are often sales jobs available. As people settle in the area, raise families, and grow old, it is likely that education and healthcare provision in and around Greenwich will increase to meet the demand. The ongoing regeneration of the Thames means that the quality of the river water is improving, bringing wildlife watching and recreational opportunities to the area.
