Farnborough is an affluent area in the north east of Hampshire with strong transport links to London and a burgeoning technology sector, known for creating numerous high-value jobs in the town. Farnborough is perhaps best known for its rich history in aviation, which has spawned popular events such as the Farnborough Airshow. While many venture further afield for evening entertainment, the town's 65,000 residents enjoy a good mix of recreational facilities, including a sizeable gym and a large bowling venue. House prices in the town are generally higher than nearby Aldershot, but similar to Camberley further north.
Farnborough Job Opportunities
The local Farnborough Airport is an important hub for various defence, aerospace and technology businesses, which provide around 8,000 jobs according to a 2009 Impact report. Engineering and manufacturing jobs in aviation offer a challenging, yet rewarding career for those who love to build, invent and solve problems. The Farnborough Business Park is another bustling location where local and multi-national companies generate a range of opportunities, including a number of administration jobs. Elsewhere, a recent rise in disposable income has meant that sales jobs have become more numerous in Farnborough.
Farnborough Employment Trends
The town centre in Farnborough is the subject of ongoing development plans that will introduce new bars, restaurants and other places to socialise in the near future, and generate further retail and hospitality jobs in Farnborough. According to Rushmoor Borough Council, £250 million is proposed for investment in the coming decade, which will see fresh business and leisure spaces created as well as improved parking facilities in the town centre. The town has already seen developments at one of the local railway stations, allowing a greater number of visitors into the area and, likewise, enhanced access to destinations further afield.
