Fareham Overview

Fareham is located on the South Coast, to the North West of Portsmouth. The city is situated in the county of Hampshire, with its own council, Fareham Borough Council. Fareham has been in the past a quite quiet town; however, there is significant potential for rapid growth in coming years, with 6,000 homes, businesses and community areas being proposed through the Welborne site.

Living costs within the Fareham area are higher than compared to the surrounding towns. Being located on the South Coast, there is a high demand for housing, as Fareham is within commuting distance of Portsmouth and Southampton. The cost of living is lower in areas such as Portsmouth and Gosport, which are easily accessible for Fareham employment. The highest number of commuters to Fareham are from Gosport.

Fareham Job Opportunities

Fareham is a thriving business area, with a number of different industries, including healthcare jobs and engineering jobs, being readily available. Some of the biggest employers, with over 500 employees are the National Air Traffic Services Ltd located in Swanwick. One of the other biggest employers is the Office of National Statistics, and HMS Collingwood, which is one of the Royal Navy's training bases. If you work in education, one of the larger education colleges in the South Coast is situated in Fareham itself. The college caters for post-16 education; a number of employment opportunities are available. Other large employers within the area, based at the Segensworth Industrial Estate are: Schefenacker Vision Systems UK Ltd, Meggitt Avionics and then there is Fareham Borough Council.
