Eastleigh Overview

Eastleigh is a town that came to life with the advent of trains, and it is this rich history that keeps many of people in the region still living and working in the town. Eastleigh can be very picturesque, and with the rivers Hamble and Itchen in proximity, there are plenty of opportunities for yachting, windsurfing, sailing, fishing and canoeing. In addition, thanks to its location between Southampton and Winchester, the town offers excellent access to various parts of Hampshire, with train links to the South Coast and London Waterloo.

Eastleigh Job Opportunities

Eastleigh's efficient transportation system, with not only the railway line, but also access to the M3 and M27 as well as Southampton International Airport, has made the town a hub for local and international businesses. According to the Eastleigh Borough Council, there are over 5,000 businesses providing jobs in Eastleigh for over 60,000 people. Some notable companies operating in the region include Flybe, B&Q, Wickes, GE Aviation and AGEAS Insurance. Aside from these, the airport alone provides for all manner of employment opportunities, including engineering jobs and operations and logistics jobs to name a few. The Swan Center, an expansive indoors shopping complex, is one of Eastleigh's major features and provides opportunities for customer service jobs. Some of the most popular names in retail, including Dorothy Perkins, Argos, Tesco and H. Samuel, all have stores there.

Eastleigh Employment Trends

With two additional education institutions, Barton Peveril Sixth Form College and Eastleigh College, the town council of Eastleigh is now focusing more on knowledge-based businesses and high technology. The council is also planning the restoration of the town centre, meaning there will be more business opportunities in sectors such as retail, construction, and financial services. With an estimated economy of £2.96 billion in 2011, Eastleigh's economic outlook seems very promising in the coming years.
