The cathedral city of Chichester is the county town of West Sussex in southeast England. The city is connected to the M27, M3 and M27 motorways via the A27 coastal trunk road and regular train services run to London Victoria, via Gatwick Airport, on the West Coastway Line. According to Generation Rent, the cost of living in Chichester and commuting into London is £13,072 per annum.
Chichester Job Opportunities
Chichester is situated between the South Downs National Park and Chichester Harbour, designated an Area of Outstanding National Beauty, in close proximity to several first-class marina facilities. It is no surprise, therefore, that the local economy is based largely on tourism and related industries.
Naturally enough, there are plenty of customer service jobs and sales jobs available in Chichester, but recent forecasts from Cambridge Econometrics suggest substantial increase of finance jobs, business and other market services roles in coastal West Sussex over the next decade or so. By contrast, the agriculture, construction and manufacturing sectors are all expected to lose employment in the same period
Chichester Employment Trends
According to Karen Brooks from the Department of Work and Pensions, unemployment in Chichester fell by 24.2% in June 2015 compared with the previous year. Chichester District Council highlighted the importance of tourism to the local economy earlier this year and plenty of recruitment, especially in the hospitality industry, has taken place in the area. The Goodwood Estate, which includes the Goodwood Hotel, has frequent opportunities for bar, kitchen and restaurant staff.
Obviously, seasonal work becomes more abundant before the summer months, but major employers, such as Next, Marks and Spencer and Rolls-Royce, are also moving into Chichester and its nearby 'sister' town of Bognor Regis. Rolls-Royce has revealed plans to create 100 extra job in its facility in Goodwood and to build a new factory in Bognor Regis.
