Gloucestershire Hospitals are looking to recruit a Radiographer who either has a postgraduate qualification in Mammography or is keen to work towards gaining the qualification.

Come and join our friendly department and you will be part of a multi-disciplinary breast team based at the Thirlestaine Breast Centre in Cheltenham undertaking digital mammography practice within the NHS Breast Screening Programme and the Symptomatic Breast Service.

Main duties of the job

The post holder is responsible for performing screening mammography with precision and speed, of a constantly high technical standard at the Breast Centre and Mobile Screening Units. They will deliver a high quality service for patients referred to the Symptomatic breast service. They will also undertake specialised assessment mammography to the standard required by the service.

The post holder is responsible for the day to day supervision of Band 5 Trainee Mammographers, Assistant Practitioners and Radiographic Care Assistants.

About us

We provide all breast outpatient services for those requiring diagnosis or treatment in the county of Gloucestershire and we deliver the Gloucestershire breast screening programme with a screening population of over 100,000 women. In this role you will work alongside our experienced breast care and breast imaging teams, participating in both screening and symptomatic mammography. You will also work within our family history, follow-up and screening assessment clinics. Our breast screening service also operates two mobile units which currently move through eight locations within Gloucestershire, to which you will be required to drive to on a weekly basis.

Job responsibilities

You will hold a BSc in Radiography or the Diploma of the College of Radiographers. You will also be registered with the Health Care Professions Council. Ideally applicants will already possess a postgraduate qualification in Mammography, but training will be supported if necessary.

The successful candidate will hold a full UK driving license as car use is essential.

Due to the nature of the work, mammography posts have a gender protected character. This is a genuine occupational requirement and as a result this post is exempt under Schedule 9; Part1 of the Equality Act 2010 and therefore only female applicants over 18 should apply.
