We are seeking a part-time Medical Secretary (three days a week - though full-time hours in a dual role elsewhere within the administrative team may be possible) to join our friendly and motivated team. The role is varied and interesting, including audio typing of patient referrals, medical reports etc, sending electronic referrals, minute taking of meetings, communication via telephone and emails with patients, hospitals and other health providers and providing secretarial or administrative support to the practice as required.

The successful applicant will be a team worker, able to work calmly under pressure, have flexibility to cover for sickness and holidays, have either typing qualifications or experience, and attention to detail.

About us

Carnewater Practice is a dispensing, and medical training practice with 11,900 patients (and growing!). Our practice covers 208 square kilometres of Bodmin Moor (80 square miles) as well as the town of Bodmin and the surrounding villages. We have our main surgery in Bodmin town centre, and a branch surgery in Lewannick, near Launceston.

Job Description

  • To provide an efficient audio, copy typing and word processing service for the practice as required. This includes the typing of letters, reports, patient referrals, minutes, etc. in an accurate and quality manner, and filing appropriately in electronic form. This requires understanding the context of the audio/written dictation and at times rearranging/rewording. Secretaries will at times need to produce correspondence without dictation, and be sent without clinicians signature.
  • Minute taking at meetings as required.
  • Knowledge and use of e-Referral Service including monitoring of website and reporting of problems to the Referral Management Service and familiarity with referral pathways/criteria. To advise clinicians when aware of changes to criteria or suggest alternatives. Checking of all outgoing referrals that all necessary information/enclosures present to avoid rejection
  • Knowledge and use of Maxims system for obtaining reports
  • Ensure results/reports are brought to the attention of clinicians in a timely manner.
  • Daily monitoring of email (own and Carnewater General NHS emails) and action appropriately. Awareness of and compliance with methods of secure email
  • To assist with all clerical, reception and administrative duties as needed.
  • Dealing with patients and hospitals etc on the telephone.
  • To receive incoming and initiate outgoing telephone calls in order to facilitate timely and appropriate communications with others, taking messages and dealing with appropriate queries.
  • To establish and maintain electronic filing so that information is easily accessible and secure as required.
  • To assist with the gathering of statistics and information when required.
  • To provide cover for members of the secretarial team during periods of sickness and annual leave.
  • Daily to remove and replace external backup drive for EMIS backup in server cabinet
  • Knowledge/awareness of practice policies and procedures that are relevant to this post/practice
  • To contribute to team development and training at team meetings and appraisals
  • To report Significant Events (both good and bad!) via the correct route.

An exciting opportunity has arisen working at Bodmin Hospital for a Progress Co-Ordinator to join the ward teams. You will play an important role in supporting the clinical staff in facilitating safe and timely discharge from hospital for patients.

We have a new vacancy for an enthusiastic RNLD to join our energetic and committed team to continue on the journey of developing and strengthening community support for adults with Learning Disabilities who may also be Autistic, present with mental ill-health and/or behaviour that challenges. Intensive Support Team works across Community Adult Learning Disability teams to support the on-going Transforming Care for people with a Learning Disability nationally.

Our purpose is to provide assessments and positive behavioural approaches /plans for people who are at risk of admission to specialist or mental health hospital or placement breakdown. This involves working with the individuals, providing modelling and training to provider care staff and/or family members, to achieve patient centered outcomes and support improvement in quality of life as much as possible. We may also support safe transitions between providers and work with inpatient services, the individual to facilitate successful discharge.

Clinical work is multi-disciplinary involving assessment of complex cases, formulation and provision of therapeutic interventions, including positive behavioural approaches as part of the multi-disciplinary care planning and delivery. Planning and directing and supervising associated work for HCAs and delivery of patient-centered training packages to care providers are also part of this rewarding role.

The role involves working in collaboration with Social Care, Specialist Commissioning and Specialist Care Providers. Intervention plans involve working alongside all these agencies, our Trust’s Community Learning Disability multi-disciplinary teams in Cornwall
